In the 2010-2011 academic year, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), along with the new CEIM Chair in Industrial Construction and the Environment, was incorporated into the School of Architecture under the direction of architect Dr. Felipe Pich-Aguilera.
The Chair was created through the initiative of Dr. Pich-Aguilera and was supported by two collaborating companies: Rockwool Peninsular S.A.U (an insulation company) and Pich-Aguilera Architects S.L. (international architectural studio).
The aim of the UIC, in response to market needs, was to create a Chair that would cooperate in the scientific-technological area to a greater extent than is possible in R & D, involving three clear areas of activity: training, knowledge generation and the transfer of technology and knowledge.
One of the objectives of the CEIM is to establish forms of collaboration and joint development between the UIC and the various companies and organisations in the construction industry, in order to obtain a significant result in terms of sustainability and environmental friendliness. The Chair began its career along with four partner companies but aims to increase the representativeness of the sector in terms of a total of ten to twelve companies.
