University centres are the cornerstone of research in any society. The extent to which universities generate knowledge is a key factor in how the economy and society as a whole responds to the demands of the modern world.
At the UIC Barcelona Doctorate School, we promote and coordinate the doctoral programmes. These programmes drive the generation of knowledge through high-level research. The grants aim to support the training of qualified specialists and professionals, and to create both technical and research scientific staff, in order to attract talent to the University.
The knowledge that is created, principally through research activities, must reach beyond the University to fulfil its fundamental role in the economy and society as a whole.
The academic and research fund was set up to assist the University with the academic development of its teaching staff and to drive and promote research.
It comprises financial contributions from individuals and public and private organisations. Its sole purpose is to ensure the economic sustainability of training activities for the teaching body and possible candidates. Part of its remit is also the viability of grant and doctorate contracts, and strategic actions to promote and support areas of research at UIC Barcelona with a high social impact and return.
The endowment formula employed by this fund uses the annual income generated exclusively for strategic projects. Over the coming years, some of the donations will be used to feed the fund.
The academic and research fund aims to address:
The annual UIC research competition award
University Advisory Council grants for training the teaching body
University Advisory Council grants for innovation in education
Support for the UIC Doctorate School
Junior Faculty grants
Programmes promoting research projects
Programmes supporting the training and recruitment of teaching and research staff
