Habitual reading provides a wealth of benefits. These include an understanding of other realities, heightened knowledge and better communication skills.
The UIC Barcelona Reading Group was set up with the idea of creating a meeting point where reading enthusiasts could share the experiences this activity involves, organise discussions with expert moderators, increase their knowledge of books and simply enjoy reading. They wanted it to become a forum for sharing knowledge and experiences with other members of the group.
With the support of Student Services, there are now reading groups on both campuses. On the Barcelona Campus, it is coordinated by Mariona Giner from UIC Barcelona’s Garbí bookshop. And on the Sant Cugat Campus, it is coordinated by Andrea Rodríguez, a member of the Faculty of Humanities.
The activity is intended for the entire UIC Barcelona university community, as well as people directly connected to the institution.
The Coffee & Books Sessions are colloquiums featuring moderators who are experts on the book under discussion.
At each Coffee & Books Session, the group members choose the book that will be discussed during the next meeting over a nice cup of coffee.
The sessions will begin in October 2017 and will take place one Thursday a month at 2.30 p.m. in the Beta 211.
