Any person lawfully connected to UIC for training as scientific research staff will have a mentor. The mentor will be responsible for the individual teaching of the person in training and act as their adviser and guide, in according to comply with their expectations for complete training, appropriate to the initial intentions, and in the average time predicted, through the provision of the best possible conditions for their future scientific career.
The mentor is obliged to do the following:
Supervise the work and its completion by the person in training, by means of regular personal interaction.
Establish regular meetings for professional discussion with the persons in training, during which progress on the scientific tasks assigned and new scientific publications which may be of interest for the ongoing research are discussed and reviewed.
Be particularly diligent with research assistants to avoid them being excessively involved in tasks unconnected to their training during the doctorate programme to which they are connected.
Teach staff in training all components of best practices in research and, where applicable, the ethical standards for human or animal experimentation.
