In 2016, the Vila Saborit Foundation, Sagrat Cor Hospital and UIC Barcelona set up an award for research in Nursing for the purpose of recognising the work of young researchers, promoting excellence in scientific work, supporting research in the field of Nursing and disseminating the results of research in this discipline.
There are two awards categories:
A) Doctoral theses (biannual)
B) Final degree projects (organised every year)
Terms and conditions of the 3rd edition of the Awards (2018)
Eligible applicants include:
PhD holders who defended their thesis in the past three years and earned "Cum Laude" honours. Applicants must attach a copy of their doctoral certificate.
Professionals who have completed a master's degree (official) and who have defended a research project in the context of the Final Master's Degree Project (TFM) in the field of Nursing. They must have defended their TFM in the same academic year as the call is made, with a minimum mark of 8.0. Applicants must attach a copy of the academic record from the completed master's degree.
The call is open to all students enrolled in a master’s programme at a Catalan university.
The works submitted must be previously unpublished and written in Catalan, Spanish or English, and may cover any area of knowledge within the field of Nursing.
Type A: Doctoral theses: biannual call

1st runner-up: €1,000
2nd runner-up: €500
Type B: Final Master's Degree Projects: annual call
1st place: €1,000
2 runner-up awards: €500 (each)
Place and deadline for submitting applications:
Applications may be presented in person or sent by ordinary post to the Secretariat for the awards on the Sant Cugat Campus of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (Josep Trueta S/N), for the attention of Maria Vera, and should include all documents, duly completed, in the established formats.
The submission period is from 26 March 2018 to 21 September 2018 (applications will not be received in August). Applications will only be accepted in the stipulated format and within the above-mentioned timeframe.
The summary of the submitted thesis should not exceed 6,000 words.
Candidates who have submitted and defended a compendium of publications must also complete the above-mentioned documents, which should not exceed 6,000 words. References to published articles may not be included, as the anonymity of the document must be maintained at all times. Candidates must also summarise the introduction, methodology, results, etc. in the document presented as a model to be eligible for the award.
The award recipients will be chosen by an expert jury set up for that purpose and made up of representatives from the following institutions:
Vila Saborit Foundation
Holders of a PhD in Nursing, one member from each Catalan university that offers studies and master’s degrees in Nursing
Holders of a PhD in Nursing, representatives from Catalan healthcare institutions
Experts in research from Sagrat Cor University Hospital
The jury’s decision will be made public in the awards ceremony that is due to take place on 16 November 2018, the day before the feast day of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, patron saint of nurses.
Once the selected candidates/finalists have defended their submissions before a final evaluating jury, the names of the award winners will be announced.
The Familia Vila Saborit Foundation, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and Sagrat Cor University Hospital reserve the right to disseminate information on the awards through any media outlet.
The jury’s decision is not subject to appeal. The jury reserves the right not to award a prize if it considers that the submissions do not meet the requirements.
Any applicants who do not submit their project in the required format, do not submit a duly completed copy of the application form or do not present the documentation within the stipulated timeframe and as indicated above will be excluded.
Timeline for the 2018 edition:
26 March to 21 September: Receipt of submissions
21 September to 5 November: Assessment by the jury
16 November: Award ceremony in the Saló de Graus at UIC Barcelona
