In 2016, the Vila Saborit Foundation, the Sagrat Cor Hospital and UIC Barcelona set up an award for research in nursing with the aim of recognising the work of young researchers, promoting excellence in scientific work, supporting research in the field of nursing and disseminating the results of research in this discipline.
There are two categories of award:
A) Doctoral theses (organised every three years, the next one being in 2019)
B) Final degree projects (organised every year)
Rules for the second edition of the Awards (2017)
Eligible candidates include:
Professionals who have completed a master's degree (official) and who have defended a project/work of research in the context of the final work of master (TFM), in the area of knowledge of nursing. They should have defended its TFM in the academic year in which the call is made. Candidates must have obtained a minimum score of 8'0. The academic record of the completed master shall accompany them.
The call is open to all students enrolled on a Master’s course offered by a Catalan university.
The works submitted must be previously unpublished and written in Catalan, Spanish or English, and may cover any area of knowledge within the field of nursing.

1st prize: €1,000
1st runner-up: €500
2nd runner-up: €500
Address for submitting projects and deadline:
Applications may be presented in person or sent by ordinary post to the Secretariat of the awards at the Sant Cugat Campus of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (Calle Josep Trueta S/N), for the attention of Maria Vera, and should include all the documents, duly completed, in the established formats.
The submission period for the award will start on 1 March 2017 and end on 11 October 2017. Applications will only be accepted in the stipulated format and within this deadline.
Documentation and delivery method:
The presentation of Final Degree Project applications should exclude any details that might identify the person submitting the application. The document entitled ‘Presentation of applications’ of the Final Degree Projects should be completed and submitted, which can be downloaded from www.uic.es/premisvilasaborit.
You should also submit the certificate with the grade of Excellent for your final Master’s degree project.
The length of the application submitted should not exceed 5,000 words.

The jury’s decision will be announced at the prize-giving ceremony on 17 November, the day of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, the Patron Saint of Nursing, once the projects submitted by the selected candidates/finalists have been defended in public before a representation of the assessment tribunal. The final decision of the tribunal will be released after the public defence of the projects.
The Familia Vila Saborit Foundation, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and the Sagrat Cor University Hospital reserve the right to divulge information on the awards to the media.
The jury’s decision will be final and it may decide not to grant the award if the projects presented are not of the standard expected by the tribunal.
Any candidates who do not present their project in the required format, who do not include the application form duly completed, or who do not present the documentation within the deadline and in the format required, will be excluded.
Timeline for the 2017 awards:
1 March – 11 October: receipt of applications
31 October – 6 November: assessment by the tribunal
17 November: prize-giving ceremony in the Assembly Room of the Sagrat Cor Hospital
