UIC Rector Dr. Josep Argemí presided over the University Council meeting on Friday, 23 July 2010, where some new features for the next academic year were announced. Once again, medals were awarded to all staff members who have been working at the UIC for the past 10 years.
The Rector highlighted some of the activities undertaken over the year, such as the preparation of the Strategic Plan for the next five years, the investiture ceremony held in May, in which honorary degrees were awarded, the implementation of the Bologna Process, and the expansion of the Barcelona Campus. New appointments that will come into effect in September at the start of the academic year were also announced. These new appointments include Leontina Vinaixa, the new Manager of Research Administrative Services, and Evaristo Aguado, the new Director of Advice and Coaching.
Dr. Jaume Armengou, the Vice Rector for Academic Organization and Teaching, then reviewed all the work done by the UIC to prepare for next academic year, which will see the inclusion of 14 programmes adapted to the Bologna Process. Dr. Armengou also mentioned the progress made in e-learning and the wider range of master’s and postgraduate programmes available.
Lastly, UIC Manager Emilio Argelés presented the figures for admissions to the UIC and then talked about the university’s new investments and facilities. Among other subjects, he spoke about the progress of the new building work on the Barcelona Campus. These new buildings are located in Calle Terré, where the Faculty of Education will be based from the start of the new academic year.
The Vice Rector of the University Community, Belén Zárate, summarized all the activities undertaken by Student Services, Sports Services, the alumni, International Relations and the Professional Strategies Service, and described the new Solidarity Project being developed by the UIC.
The most emotional moment of the event was when the Rector awarded medals bearing the UIC seal to about fifteen teaching and administrative personnel who are celebrating 10 years’ service at the UIC this year.
