For the Catalan stage, organised by the UIC, the Forum topic is the following.
"Rethinking the future"
How can we build a better, more just, more human and cleaner future today? Before being swept away by the trends of the moment, daily consumerism, and the daily rush that does not allow us to think properly, we can choose to rethink our future when we achieve a little calmness. Your years at university are the best time to share with other people who are experiencing the same moment in life, dreams, hopes, fears, insecurities...but above all the desire to change the world to make it a more just and more beautiful place. They are years in which important issues arise that require a response from life itself: where am I from? Where am I going? Who am I? What do I want or what do I have to do? This is a time when you get to know yourself, create profound friendships, take charge of the different problems and challenges that occur in the world that we live in, and from there arises the concern to discover the role one is playing as well as the desire to change society. Insecurities based on uncertainly about the future and fear of failure exist, as well as the temptation to fold in on oneself and to end up having a comfortable life focused only on one’s own satisfaction.
Soon it will be 50 years since May 1968, when a student movement took place that channelled the willpower of many young people who wanted to change the world they had inherited from their elders. When looked at from a distance, this event had many consequences in terms of configuring Western society as we experience it today. Some of these are positive, but many others may be what have led us to what Bauman called liquid modernity. Like in 1968, today also seems like a good time to fight for a change in the paradigm that will allow us to build a more hopeful future. The UNIV 2018 Forum, taking the aforementioned historic time and its consequences as an inspiration, aims to provide a space for reflection, a dialogue laboratory for projects in order to rethink the future based on our current experiences, what do we need to do to humanise today’s world? Can anything be done to take relationships to the human and personal level that is so necessary for the growth of humans today? What should the nature of mobility be in the future? What are its limitations?
