The postgraduate program in Periodontology is a 3-year full-time program accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), designed to train dentists in the specialized field of periodontics and implant dentistry. The Program prepares accepted candidates to run clinical treatments, teach, and conduct research in periodontics and surgical implant dentistry. The course consists of a theoretical unit that addresses clinical topics in periodontics, seminars on classical and contemporary literature review and analysis, courses in surgical implant dentistry and periodontics, the relationship between periodontics and other specialized areas of dentistry, the study of clinical cases in periodontics, and clinical cases that involve other areas of specialization. During the practical part, students receive training in all varieties of periodontal treatments, and carry out an individual research project within the area of periodontics and implant dentistry.
The advanced periodontics teaching programme is designed to prepare dental professionals and stomatologists to become specialists in the field of periodontics and implants. This programme will prepare such professionals for clinical practice, academic teaching and research in periodontics.
It comprises a theoretical cycle covering clinical aspects of periodontics and seminars involving the review and analysis of classical and current periodontics literature, joint prosthodontics and periodontics seminars, seminars concerning the relationship between periodontics and other dental specialities, the presentation of clinical cases in periodontics and joint clinical cases with other specialities. The practical component includes the treatment of all types of periodontic patients, ranging from basic treatments to treatments including periodontal and mucogingival surgery and implantology. A research project in periodontics, which can focus on either clinical and/or laboratory aspects, will be undertaken during each academic year.
