The organised set of learning and research activities that lead to obtaining the title is called the doctoral programme.
For each doctoral programme, a set of lines of research is defined within a field of knowledge affiliated with one or more faculties, departments or institutions of the UIC. Additionally, it defines the competencies the student must acquire to obtain the title of doctor.
The Doctorate Academic Committee, in which the lines of research are represented, is responsible for managing and organising each of the programmes.
The objectives of doctoral studies are to train researchers and lecturers, pass on scientific progress, learn about specialised sciences and technology and provide a learning experience for university graduates. The doctoral studies are structured into programmes which include learning and research activities, and end with the presentation and approval of a doctoral thesis, which should be an original research project on a subject connected to the programme’s scientific, technical or artistic field.
All doctoral programmes offered to students are adapted to the European Higher Education Area, in accordance with the regulations on university courses as defined by Spanish Royal Decrees 1393/2007 and 99/2011.
The Doctorate in Architecture programme at UIC Barcelona offers two lines of research.
