Management of the healthcare system and its related organisations is highly complex.
Socio-demographic changes and lifestyle have an impact on this sector, as well as the emergence of new medical technologies and new knowledge, the suitability of skilled human resources, the financial resources available and legislational changes, among other factors.
Healthcare centres are the site of the main activity, which is healthcare including essential support activities. Decision making, ie, management, aimed at achieving safe, good quality care, requires skilled professionals. The Master's Degree in Healthcare Management from UIC Barcelona provides students with useful, practical and professional education and training, for both general practitioners and nurses, as well as for those graduates in the field of health sciences or other academic disciplines which are interconnected with them (Economics, Business Studies, Law, Engineering, etc..). This will allow them to be guided professionally at other levels of healthcare management, both public and private.
For many general practitioners, nurses or other qualified professionals, managerial tasks are added to their clinical tasks. Education and training in leadership should not only be acquired when levels of responsibility demand it.

This Master's provides an applied overview of the health sector which enables students to take on responsibilities in health management, directing functional areas and services and professional team leadership in health centers and care for people.
Students who complete this degree will have acquired the following skills:
- Knowledge and understanding that provide a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and / or applying ideas, often within a research context
- The ability to apply knowledge and solve problems in new or unfamiliar contexts within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study

- The ability to use economic management concepts judiciously in a real environment, within the context of public management and private health companies, and to be aware of the sources of health financing, payment systems and various types of health coverage
- The ability to apply techniques of proper people management in a real environment, ensuring their full development, and creating a climate conducive to development and to obtaining the expected achievements
- The ability to find reliable sources of information that allow students to analyse and exploit it so that it facilitates decision-making at all levels of organisation (clinical results, general services)
- The ability toidentify the portfolio of services and key healthcare processes in each organization and level of public and proposing actions to ensure coordination between different levels of care
- The ability to implement assessment models and quality management (technical, perceived total) and patient safety
- The ability to link together the concepts learned and apply them properly, and remain informed about the issues that have a direct or indirect impact on healthcare organisations
