Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.


Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is the area of dentistry that deals with the supervision, guidance and correction of growth and maturation of the craniofacial structures.

Major responsibilities of orthodontic practice include the diagnosis, prevention, interception and treatment of occlusion anomalies and associated changes in bone and soft tissue.

The orthodontist should monitor the guidance of the dentition and the relationship between their supporting structures to achieve and maintain harmonious relations between the face and cranial structures that allow the patient physiology and dento-facial aesthetics optimal.

The subject of health management and security focuses on instruct patients to maintain optimal oral and dental hygiene, and knowledge of hygienic measures to develop in the dental office.

Objectives

The aim of the course "Management of health and safety" is to learn the necessary knowledge to:

Implement preventive measures to control diseases of the oral cavity.

Manage clinical practice hygiene, sterilization and cross infection control necessary in orthodontic clinic.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Instruct patients to maintain optimal oral hygiene as a preventive measure for dental and gingival lesions

Competent to implement strategies for prevention of cross infection

Competent to systematically evaluate the practice of infection control program to ensure that procedures are properly met

Competent to handle high-risk patients

Competent to control hazardous substances for patients and staff consultation

Learning outcomes of the subject

Having knowledge of specific etiologic features in orthodontic practice relating to the development of dental caries, periodontal problems and damage to soft tissues.

Having knowledge of procedures to detect an increased risk of developing enamel decalcification and dental caries in orthodontic patients.

Having knowledge of the procedures used to detect an increased risk of developing orthodontic problems.

Knowledge of the methods of sterilization of instruments.
