Oral implantology is a rehabilitation treatment widely used and popular for the treatment of edentulous patients. The placement of one or more teeth, requires a surgical procedure involving many factors to consider before operating our patient. The aim of this course is to prepare students, through lectures, for the correct choice of implant, surgical techniques, biomaterials and complications that may arise during this phase of treatment.

Pre-course requirements

Dentistry degree.

To passed the first year of MORE program.

Objectives

The aim of this course is to prepare students, through lectures, for the correct choice of implant, surgical techniques, biomaterials and complications that may arise during this phase of treatment.

The aim of this course is also to get students to acquire the skills that allow treating total and partially edentulous patients in a comprehensive manner, from the first visit until discharge. Applying theoretical knowledge, students will implement their ability to diagnose using tools such as semi-adjustable articulator, digital camera or cone beam tomography (CBCT), develop a treatment plan and eventually operate his or her patients.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Upon completion of his Residency Clinic, students will be able to diagnose and develop a treatment plan safely and to perform implant surgery in total and partially edentulous patients in simple cases.

Learning outcomes of the subject

To know the surgical anatomy
To know the different radiological techniques
To know the steps that must be taken into account in a rehabilitation on teeth and implants
To diagnose and study additional complementary explorations
Establish a treatment plan
To know the aesthetic parameters of the oral cavity
To know how to evaluate the aesthetic parameters
To know the means to achieve an aesthetic treatment
To know the steps of a single unit, partial and complete prosthetic rehabilitation with implants in different clinical cases.
Knowing the basic surgical principles of oral surgery and implantology
Knowing advanced surgical treatment (application of bone substitutes and membranes in simple cases)
Identify different implant systems and their particularities.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

Healthcare activity, in which patients are visited to perform a diagnosis and a treatment plan that allows the placement of dental implants safely and predictably.

They are theoretical and practical sessions in which there is a brief introduction and subsequent practice with different materials.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

Mandatory attendance at theoretical sessions, seminars and practices

Continuous assessment with midterm exam in December and final exam in July

Final grade for the course:

40% attendance

30% final exam

30% delivery of all the cases presented (operated or not) and presentation of final cases
