Teaching staff

Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.

Seminars are one of the keystones in IMOS. The debate format of the seminars promotes the discussion between students, argumentation and public speech skills. All the subjects and seminars in oral surgery and dental implantology were carefully designed in order to give our students a strong foundation in oral surgery as well as providing them with the latest surgical and diagnostic technics. The entire program is created by professors in the different fields of oral surgery and dental implantology.

Objectives

  • Give the student a deep theorical knowledge in oral surgery and dental implantology.
  • Stress the importance of the pathology in these anatomical areas and their consequences.
  • The seminars will follow the EAO (European Association of Osseointegration) theoretical programme.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • To have an excellent knowledge of oral pathology.
  • To know head and neck anatomy.
  • To be able to distinguish surgical instruments and their use in oral surgery.
  • To know the different radiological tests and their clinical interpretation.
  • To know the diagnostic protocol in oral cancer.
  • To know which are the most common complications in oral surgery and to learn how to manage them in each case.
  • To learn the principles on how to set a sterile operating field in oral surgery.
  • To be able to make a treatment plan working with other Departments.
  • To know different biomaterials and their use.
  • To know the principles in periodontal surgery.
  • To learn the clinical protocol in special patients with chronic disease or treatments.
  • To be able to apply new technologies in oral surgery.
  • To develop skills that will allow them to work effectively as a team with other students.
  • To understand how important the Informed Consent is and how to fill it correctly.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Residents should be able to:

  • Visit the patient and make a correct anamnesis, exploration and a differential diagnosis.
  • Read the radiological tests.
  • Make a surgical planning with and without a 3D software.
  • Fill the Informed Consent.
  • Treat the patient.

Teaching and learning activities

In blended

One-hour seminar for 1st and 2nd course. Every Thursday from 10 a.m to 11 a.m for IMOS 1 and from 11 a.m to 12 p.m for IMOS 2.

Each seminar lasts 1 hour. The class is divided into 2 groups (3 students per group). The first 30 min will consist on a defense about the topic assigned between both groups (15 min for each group). The following 15 min both groups will discuss the topic and finally the last 15 min the professor in charge of the seminar will conclude with the conclusions.

Evaluation systems and criteria
