Introduction
El mundo actual es fruto de un conjunto de complejos procesos políticos, sociales y culturales que vive la humanidad desde mediados del siglo XVIII hasta día de hoy. A lo largo de esta asignatura analizaremos los principales hechos, procesos, estructuras y personajes que han decidido la configuración del mundo contemporáneo.
Nos centraremos en nuestro ámbito de civilización -Europa y Occidente- pero estudiaremos también la evolución histórica de los otros espacios que conforman nuestro mundo global. Nos focalizaremos en la historia política, pero recorremos también las transformaciones económicas, los saltos tecnológicos, las corrientes culturales o la evolución de las mentalidades.
Trabajaremos desde una hermenéutica abierta, es decir, comprendiendo que los fenómenos históricos no estaban ya decididos ni cerrados de antemano, sino que podían haber tomado varias trayectorias. Comprender por qué siguieron el curso que siguieron y cómo hemos llegado hasta nuestro presente es el objetivo principal de este curso, así como la mejor forma de despertar la conciencia de la libertad y la responsabilidad en cada uno y cada una.

- Know the main historical data to help understand the present
- Analyse and understand the different political models, in its temporal development and its viability
- Understand and critically assess the human rights developments
- Understand and analyse the social changes that have occurred in the different forms of living

BLOQUE I: NACIMIENTO Y HEGEMONÍA DE LA EUROPA LIBERAL
1. El Antiguo Régimen y los contrastes de la primera Modernidad.
2. Las bases del pensamiento liberal.
3. El primer ciclo revolucionario en el mundo anglosajón.
4. La revolución francesa y la Europa napoleónica.
5. El Romanticismo.
6. La revolución industrial y la consolidación del capitalismo.
7. Imperios y Estados nacionales en la Europa del siglo XIX.
8. Colonialismo y globalización.
BLOQUE 2: LA CRISIS DE LA MODERNIDAD
9. El auge del socialismo y del movimiento obrero.
10. La crisis de la Modernidad y las vanguardias artísticas.
11. I Guerra Mundial, la revolución fascista y la II Guerra Mundial.
12. La revolución comunista y la evolución del mundo soviético.

Teaching and learning activities

| Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students. | 2,0 |
| Seminar. This activity will consist of taking an in-depth look at specific up-to-date topics in a monographic manner-in some cases these topics will have been debated socially-, via active work in small groups. | 0,6 |
| Practical workshop. A highly practical working activity, where students can acquire skills that are practical or also theoretical (intellectual skills, logical skills, critical skills, intellectual learning skills, study skills, quoting skills, etc). | 0,6 |
| Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested. | 0,7 |
| Meeting Point. Meetings will be organised with notable people from the professional and scientific fields or the international field, and students. These sessions will take the form of conferences, work sessions, discussions, or interviews, etc. | 0,8 |
| Lab. Working groups that combine theory and practice. The aim of these is not to undertake already known techniques, but instead to make progress that is both theoretical and technical. These Lab sessions will culminate in the creation of a professional or semi-professional product. | 0,6 |
| Workshop. Advanced and intensive workshops of a longer duration, led by lecturers and/or foreign professionals, in which the language used is English. These culminate in the creation of a professional or semi-professional product which is also produced in English. | 0,7 |
Evaluation systems and criteria
In person
La evaluación de la asignatura tendrá tres ejes:
- Los examenes parciales de contenidos.
- La elaboración de un podcast sobre temáticas opcionales de historia contemporánea.
- La elaboración de un vídeo didáctico sobre algún tema opcional de historia contemporánea.
- La participación en el desarrollo de la asignatura: asistencia, participación, diario de reflexión, trabajos.
