Introduction

This course consists of the theoretical and practical seminar of Passive Kinesitherapy. Students will begin to apply this manual therapy technique to the Musculoskeletal System, specifically, to the upper extremity.

Pre-course requirements

No prerequisites are required.

Objectives

  • Understand the theoretical principles of Biomechanics, Kinesiology and Ergonomics applied to Physiotherapy.
  • Know Physiotherapy procedures related to Kinesiotherapy.
  • Correctly apply joint mobilization passive techniques in different regions of the Musculoskeletal System.
  • Kinesiotherapy design programs adapted to various pathologies of the Musculoskeletal System.
  • Design, implement and manage a program of Kinesiotherapy tailored to the needs of the patient.
  • Have the necessary capabilities for teamwork.
  • Maintain an attitude of motivation and improvement in the learning process.

  • 50.3 - Abilty to design and apply kinesitherapy procedures, mobility, manipulation, massage, manual therapy, osteopathy, chiropractics and other manual techniques.
  • 50.7 - Ability to establish and apply group treatments to individuals with similar health conditions.
  • 50.9 - Ability to prevent and avoid risk when applying treatment.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Students:

- Understand the theoretical principles of Biomechanics, Kinesiology and Ergonomics, applied to Physiotherapy

- Know Physiotherapy procedures which are related Kinesiotherapy and applied to the pathologies of the different systems of the body

- Correctly apply the passive joint mobilization techniques in different regions of the Musculoskeletal System

- Design Kinesiotherapy programs adapted to various pathologies of the Musculoskeletal System and application in groups

- Design, implement and direct a Kinesiotherapy program tailored to the patient's needs

- Understand the importance of patient adherence to therapeutic intervention and the need to encourage their participation in the recovery process

- Have the necessary skills for teamwork

- Maintain an attitude of motivation and improvement in their learning process

Teaching and learning activities

This is principally a face-to-face course; lessons are held in the classrooms of the University where theoretical and practical seminars are conducted. The methodology used will be lectures, case method studies and resolution of exercises and problems proposed in class.

In semi-attendance distance learning, the student should individually complete the independent study activities using the independent study and assessment room of the University; the methodology used will be their learning contract with the purpose of developing skills in individual study.

Non-presential students should develop an independent form of study for the course.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



The evaluation for this subject will be:


30% continuous assessment

70% final exam (theoretical and practical)

It is essential to pass the final exam in order to pass the course.

The grading system is in accordance with the current regulations. Presently, according to RD 1.125/2003 of September 5:

0 to 4.9: Fail/F (Suspenso in Spanish)

5.0 to 6.9: Pass/C (Aprobado in Spanish).

7.0 to 8.9: B (Notable in Spanish)

9.0 to 10: A (Sobresaliente in Spanish)

The "Honors" mention may be granted to students who have achieved a mark equal to or greater than a 9.0. Their mark may not exceed 5% of students enrolled in the corresponding academic course, unless the enrollment is less than 20, in which case it may be granted a single honors course.

 

Attendance Regulations

The subjects in the Physiotherapy Degree present theoretical and practical content in which the main objective is the acquisition and development of procedures and technical skills that are directly related to the implementation of the skills in the profession. These classes are structured in small groups where there is direct and continuous supervision by the teacher. Therefore, attendance to seminars is considered essential and necessary to ensure the acquisition of these skills. 

Based on what has been presented above, absences will only be excused to those who have missed class due to major causes and even under these circumstances, if they miss more than 30% of the training work, students will have to retake the subject in the next academic year, without the possibility of a resit. The consequences derived from non-compliance with this regulation can have very negative effects directly related to the registration process (overlapping and / or academic incompatibilities), as well as the corresponding expectations in the completion of the Degree.
