Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.


The introduction to the law means first, a conceptual rounds as to what law approximation.

It is a first contact of the student with the great philosophical questions that have surrounded and surround the law.

Familiarize students with the legal vocabulary you will encounter throughout the race will be one of the main goals of the course. Vocabulary that will be essential to acquire after more legal expertise.

We examine determinants such as the meaning of the law. The relationships you have with power. The validity of legal norms and the difference to the value thereof.

We will want to focus on the different social functions performed by the law.

We stop at the sources of law, in the structure of the legal rule in the general principles of law, in the various branches of law.

They will also detailed the fundamental individual rights. And in the final section we will delve into the different theories of justice.

Objectives

  • Familiarise the student with the basic components of a legal system:  vocabulary, concepts and institutions, functions, etc.
  • Offer the student the light legal philosophers have shed and their reflections throughout history, providing a complete definition of law and justice.

  • 01 - To acquire the ability to understand main ideas and participate in conferences or professor led lectures in their academic context.

In order to carry out the first part, analysis of the basic concepts through discussion and practical examples will exist in addition professor led lectures in the classroom.  Different reading comprehension exercises taken from a variety of texts will be presented and discussed in the classroom as well.

Outside of the classroom, the student should study basic legal vocabulary, prepare text analysis as well as carry out information searches in legal databases.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In the Introduction to Theory of Law course, we will work on the acquisition of legal vocabulary, the great doctrinal currents that surround the Law, the functions of Justice, the General Principles of Law and the conceptual approach to different legal institutes that the student will find throughout the entire career of Law. Especially, we will do it through the teaching of face-to-face classes, readings of legal texts and individual typewritten works, to finish the subject with the passing of two exams. partial character and, another, final.

 

The Evaluation will follow the following System:

 

a) The continuous assessment block, (40% of the total assessment)

 

It's integrated by:

 

- the active and constant participation of the student in the classes,

 

- The punctual delivery of individual assignments and practices that will be periodic and will be corrected by the teacher. It is an essential requirement that the papers be typed, with identification of the author and delivered by hand individually at the teacher's request.

 

- and the presentation and passing of a mandatory midterm exam, scheduled for next Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

 

WARNINGS: The midterm exam is mandatory. .This exam will help the student to know his own evolution of the knowledge of the subject. It will not release material for the final exam. But if a grade higher than 7 (Notable) is obtained, the grade obtained will count positively with 2 more points than the final evaluation grade (20%).

 

The unjustified non-completion of the partial test will represent the loss of 2 points of the continuous evaluation.

 

b) The face-to-face exam of the entire subject taught (60% of the evaluation)

 

There will be a final exam of the entire subject taught and the grade obtained will be worth a maximum of 6 points of the entire evaluation.

 

NOTE: Class attendance is mandatory. Roll call "ad personam" at the beginning of each class. The NO unjustified attendance to 1/3 of the face-to-face classes, will represent the automatic loss of 1 point of the entire evaluation of the subject.
