Introduction

The broadcasting and audio offer is currently structured by specific units also called programs or podcasts.

Within the context of other radio subjects at the Faculty, “Radio Direction and Production” entails an approach to radio program typologies, with a theoretical and practical overview of the most current relevant areas in radio andalso covers the creation of audio content.

Objectives

To prepare the students to be part of a  team that generates radio content in all its different formats. Students must, therefore acquire writing skills and develop news production abilities, as well as mastering radio scripts and production. The main abilities students need to master are text editing of radio broadcasting speech, the radio specific production routines and text locution in formal standard speech. Students will be encouraged to build a critical reflection of the journalist remit and their wider role in society, together with a panoramic view of the main radio broadcasters.

  • They will be able to design radio, according to a typology and consistent with the structural reality of the sector.

Syllabus

Theory:

  1. The broadcasting and audio sector. Public and private radio stations. Generalist and specialised radio. 
  2. The broadcasting and audio sector. Organisation and functioning of a radio station. Production routines. New radio projects: podcasts.
  3. The interview. traits, typology, stages for its production and direction.
  4. The feature. The keys and the elements that make them up.
  5. Basic outline, guidelines and script. Analysis of the basic outline of the magazine format. Analysis of program scripts. Guidelines.
  6. The magazine. Basic traits.   
  7. Podcasts. Production of asynchronous projects.
  8. Manual of style.  A unique and specific manual of style. How we create and process information.  Approach to gender in the woirkplace and industry.

5- Radio production. The game of music.

6- Narration, movement in speech and descriptive ability.

7- The interview and its secrets.

Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested.

Focused Praxis. Handing in occasional exercises to learn theory through practice.

Meeting Point. Meetings will be organised with notable people from the professional and scientific fields or the international field, and students. These sessions will take the form of conferences, work sessions, discussions, or interviews, etc.

Lab. Working groups that combine theory and practice. The aim of these is not to undertake already known techniques, but instead to make progress that is both theoretical and technical. These Lab sessions will culminate in the creation of a professional or semi-professional product.

Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



  The subject will be assessed together with a final project by professional court. Realisation, production, editing, writing, innovation and phrasing will be the focus of the assessment.  Second and subsquent calls must be agreed with the lecturers on how to proceed with the projects.

Throughout the course, the instructor will provide students recommended reading for those agenda items that will complement the theoretical and practical work undertaken in class.
