Introduction

This subject consists of knowing and reviewing the most relevant classic studies in relation to oral implantology and bone regeneration.

Pre-course requirements

Be licensed/graduate in Dentistry  Passed the first year of the Master's in Periodontology

Objectives

The main objective of this subject is to provide students with the theoretical knowledge necessary to perform dental implant surgeries and bone regeneration.  The secondary objective is to provide students with the necessary knowledge to critically review scientific articles.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Provide the student with the tools and basic concepts of oral implantology and bone regeneration.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Be able to understand the anatomy of the alveolar bone.  Be able to understand the process of osseointegration of an implant.  Be able to understand the formation of the biological space around dental implants.  Be able to understand the factors that prevent marginal bone loss around implants.  Be able to understand the factors that increase the risk of dental implant failure.  Be able to understand the different clinical approaches to placing dental implants  Be able to understand the principles of bone regeneration.  Be able to understand the anatomy and sinus lift approaches

Syllabus

The contents of the subject are divided into different blocks that contain classic and relevant scientific articles. It will be treated from the anatomy of the alveolar bone, the process of osseointegration, the formation of the biological space, the success of dental implants, bone regeneration until the lifting of the maxillary sinus.

Teaching and learning activities

In person



There is a moderator on each issue. Each block will contain different articles that will be exhibited by the students. A debate will be generated between the students and the teachers. After each block, a summary will be made.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



An exam will be held in January and another in June.  The exams will be conducted orally and in English.  4 to 6 questions will be asked per student.  The grade to pass is a 7. It will also be considered the attitude and participation in class.
