Introduction

In the MASTER'S FINAL PROJECT, students will put into practice the knowledge acquired in the course of the training program, regarding clinical research and materials. The teacher-tutor will be a person in charge of the area in question, who will monitor said work. This work may have a clinical or research profile and must follow in detail, during its execution, the protocol that is designed and authorized during the first semester of the master's activity, where a working hypothesis and specific objectives will have been set. . Once the results of the study have been obtained, the student must prepare a written report of their clinical or research work following the criteria of scientific rigor learned during the master's training program. The clinical profile TFM will aim to review a specific pathology or therapeutic technique on a patient, where the student has participated directly in decision-making or has carried out the treatments himself. The bibliographic review, the knowledge of the theoretical principles of the pathologies and the level of surgical skill should be taken into account in order to be eligible for this type of TFM. The research profile TFM will have the character of laboratory research on topics or materials related to the field of dental aesthetics and prosthodontics. Based on previous studies (internal to the U.I.C. or external to it) and following the criteria of the scientific method, research works can be designed that allow more information to be provided by limiting the multiple variables that appear in the clinic on patients.

Pre-course requirements

Are not contemplated

Objectives

1. Raise current issues that help fill gaps in the scientific literature. 2. Know how to write a research protocol. 3. Carry out clinical or laboratory research work. 4. Write a scientific article. 5. Know how to write the final Master's project. 6. Exhibit and defend the work before a rostrum

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

CB10 - That students possess the learning skills that allow them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous
CB6 - Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas, often in a research context
CB8 - That students are able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments based on information that, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments
CB9 - That students know how to communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and ultimate reasons that support them, to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way
CE10 - Obtain the ability to apply the scientific method, and apply the knowledge acquired in solving problems in a scientific field. Learn to develop research projects both in vitro and in vivo, within the field of mechanics, biology and microbiology applied to prosthetic, restorative and implant-prosthetic dentistry
CE11 - Have autonomy in the development and application of new technologies in aesthetic restorative dentistry and in the search for new scientific information, and acquire the ability to evaluate and carry out research and development projects offered by the industry in an ethical manner, managing the economic and human resources, as well as knowing the strategic bases for the transfer of new knowledge to the industry
CE7 - Be able to search, organize and analyze, with a critical spirit, using biomedical information sources, the scientific literature on topics related to temporomandibular dysfunction and aesthetic restorative dentistry, in order to be able to follow their continuing education process in a self-directed and autonomous way
CE8 - Know how to apply the epistemological, ethical-deontological, legislative and humanitarian foundations in the exercise of research and dissemination of scientific data in the field of aesthetic restorative dentistry

Learning outcomes of the subject

- Design a research protocol based on the scientific method.

- Learn to get started in clinical or laboratory research, to develop a research project applying new techniques learned and managing time and resources.

- Properly write the introduction, justification, objectives, hypotheses, state of the art, materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusions of his master's thesis.

- Defend before a competent court in Dentistry the Final Master's Thesis carried out.

Syllabus

The master's thesis (TFM) is the final result of the student's work tutored by the professor where he puts into practice all the knowledge acquired during the course, among which are clinical and materials research.

The research tutor monitors the work during the development of the research, the analysis of the results and its conclusions to ensure the acquisition of skills.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

Following the criterion that the MASTER'S END WORK is the compendium of all the training received during the two years of the master's program, the Scientific Commission of the Faculty of Dentistry of the International University of Catalonia, made up of representatives from each area of the dental specialties and those responsible for the Faculty Center Board, to contribute to ensuring that this work has a scientific quality in accordance with the competencies that this teaching module requires, will value and must authorize the protocol of this research or clinical work before to carry it out. Once the study is completed and the report of the "Master's Final Project" has been drawn up, it will be reviewed by the same Scientific Commission. The review system for the "Master's Final Project" will focus on evaluating the scientific and methodological rigor of the work carried out, taking into account the communication skills that the student demonstrates.

Once evaluated by the Scientific Commission, the student is authorized to defend the Master's Final Project before a Court chosen by the Center Board at the proposal of the master's direction, made up of three doctors, one of whom must be a specialist. in the relevant study area.

Methodology of the scientific literature review 10%
Problem solving and initiative 10%
Progression in student training 10%
Defense of the Master's Thesis before Court 70%
