Introduction

Video and Audio Editing is a 4 ECTS-credit subject that is taught during the first semester of year two of the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication.

Its justification lies in the fact that editing is a fundamental process for the realisation of any audiovisual product. Selecting and ordering previously recorded material is the process through which the final structure of an audiovisual story is generated, lending it a rhythm and narrative meaning that depend on the editing process.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

The methodology will combine theory and practice with the analysis and viewing of audiovisual material. During the course, there will be several practical exercises (individual and in group). Students must also follow the readings recommended in class and attend the tutorials with the lecturer.

TRAINING ACTIVITY ECTS CREDITS
Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested. 0,8
Focused Praxis. Handing in occasional exercises to learn theory through practice. 1,0
E-learning. Virtual learning based on ICT. 1,0
Practical workshop. A highly practical working activity, where students can acquire skills that are practical or also theoretical (intellectual skills, logical skills, critical skills, intellectual learning skills, study skills, quoting skills, etc). 0,4
Peer learning. The aim of this activity is to ensure that students gain the ability to analyse and be critical. One way of achieving this is by correcting their peers' exercises and results, etc. Each student will be evaluated twice: as both a recipient and a transmitter of critical knowledge. 0,4
Mentoring programme. Ensuring a review of and in-depth look at competences and knowledge, as well as the development of habits involving social commitment and responsibility, with the strongest students providing guidance for students from lower years, particularly if they have any type of disability (physical, etc). 0,4

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

The subject will be assessed on an ongoing basis, and students must pass all three parts to pass the subject.

Students must bring headphones and an external hard drive or USB memory stick with sufficient capacity to class.

Part 1: Partial theoretical exam (30% of the subject’s final mark)

This multiple-choice test will be out of 10, and students must score at least a 5 in order for it to factor into the average of the other parts.

Part 2: Practical sessions and in-class participation (40% of the subject’s final mark)

A number of exercises will be performed during the course and various readings or viewings will be proposed both in and outside the classroom. The submission and quality of the exercises and in-class participation while completing the exercises will be assessed.

Part 3: Final report (30% of the subject’s final mark)

This paper will bring all the content of the course together. It will be done in groups (ideally 3 people).

In the second sitting, the pass marks from any of the three parts will be maintained. All parts must be passed.

In third and subsequent sittings, it will be necessary to repeat the subject.
