The progression through the G1 phase of the cell cycle is controlled by different Cyclin Dependent Kinases (CDKs) that might be associated to numerous cyclin isoforms. After the human genome project, a bunch of new CDKs and cyclins appeared. They are different from a structural point of view from the canonical ones and the physiological role of these new proteins is unknown.
Our work is focused on the elucidation of the role of these new cyclins in the control of cell cycle.
Our current basic research includes:
Defining roles for the new CDK/cyclins in cancer
Defining roles for the new CDK/cyclins in stem cells
Finding out the role of Polyphosphate in cell cycle.
