Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.

Dental Traumatology aims at teaching basic current concepts of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pathologies caused by dental trauma.

Cognitive
  • To know the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of crown fractures.
  • To know the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of crow-root fractures.
  • To know the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of horizontal root fractures.
  • To know the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of dental luxations.
  • To know the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of dental avulsions.

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • 10 - Knowing and being able to identify the psychological and physical problems derived from gender violence in order to train students in the prevention, early detection of, care for and rehabilitation of the victims of this type of violence.

  • 64 - Undertaking basic oral and dental pathology treatments for patients of all ages. The treatment procedures should be minimally invasive and based on a comprehensive and integrated approach to oral and dental treatment
  • 65 - Diagnosing, planning and undertaking, at a general level, multidisciplinary, sequential and integrated treatment of limited complexity for patients of all ages and conditions and patients with special needs (diabetes, hypertension, oncological diseases, transplants, immune-depression, anti-clotting, etc.) or disabilities. Specifically the dentist should be competent in establishing a diagnosis, a prognosis and developing a suitable treatment plan, particularly in terms of orofacial pain, temporo-mandibular disorders, bruxism and other parafunctions; dental and periapical pathology; oral and dental trauma; periodontal and peri-implanted tissue pathologies; pathology of the mandibular bone, of soft oral tissue and annex glands; states of partial or total edentation and planning rehabilitation treatment via dento-muco supported prostheses, or dental impants, dental malpositions or malocculusions and other anatomical or functional alterations of the face or the stomatognathic system and their potential orthodontic, orthopaedic or surgical corrections
  • 66 - Taking and interpreting x-rays and other image-based procedures that are important in dental practice

Teaching and learning activities


In blended

The training methodology for the subject in Blended format (semi-face-to-face) will be as follows:

 

The face-to-face theoretical classes will be limited to a maximum capacity of 50% of the class. This will establish the groups of students who will be able to attend each week in person to classes, the rest of the students of the subject will be able to follow the classes in their usual schedule online live. All the students in the class will be assigned the days in which they will attend in person. The recording of the theoretical classes will be the decision of the professor who of each of the master classes. It is recalled that capturing or recording the session without the express authorization of the teaching staff, as well as its reproduction or dissemination (for example, in social networks or services dedicated to sharing annotations), in whole or in part, whatever the medium or device used. Any improper action is a violation of current regulations, and may entail legal and disciplinary responsibilities. "

 

The seminars will be divided into groups of approximately 1/3 of the class. They will be carried out as far as possible in person, however there is the possibility, if the authorities advise it or by internal logistics of the university, that they can be done online.The realization of the seminars will be based on carrying out works or presentations based on scientific articles on truamtology. The works must be uploaded to the moodle platform.

 

The practices of the subject will be carried out in the laboratory with a maximum capacity of one third of the students. To facilitate mobility for students, it is planned to carry out 4 continuous practical hours the week that corresponds to being in person. The explanation of the practice will possibly be done in online format for all the students.

 

Two face-to-face sessions with limited capacity will be reserved to clarify doubts both in the seminars and in the theoretical classes.

Evaluation systems and criteria


In blended

  • Theoretical final exam with multiple choice questions and / or short questions. In special circumstances, and with the prior approval of the faculty and academic secretary, the student may request an oral examination, before a court of two or more professors. Once the class has started, entry to the classroom will not be accepted.
  • The final exam, depending on the health circumstances, may be done electronically using the e-moodle platform.
  • Continuous evaluation of the practices and seminars, complemented by a final evaluation test.
  • To pass the seminars, they must be at least 85% uploaded to the moodel platform. The evaluation of the same will be done by the teachers in a telematic way. In addition, the note set by the teachers during the seminars will count.
  • It is essential to pass theory and practice to pass the course.
  • Final grade: Weighted sum of the theory grade and the practical grade (70% theory exam, 20% practical exam, 10% Seminars)
  • Attendance at practices and seminars is compulsory. In case of more than two absences to seminar or more than two absences to practices, the subject will be considered as not approved.
  • Following the guidelines of the Verification Report, the approval is from 5
  • The final grade for the course will be done by averaging the grade from the student's clinic
