Objectives

The aim of this course is that students learn the basics of cultural journalism both in terms of the areas in which it operates and in terms of the various topics, routines and techniques that can work in various media and cultural institutions.

Learning outcomes of the subject

  • They will know the resources and own professional dynamics of the different areas of journalistic expertise.
  • They may perform tasks in corporate communication agencies specialized on the fields that make up the module.
  • They will know how to analyze and understand the keys of the sectors related to each of the journalistic specializations offered in the module.
  • They will adapt their own attitudes and skills of journalism to products or projects determined by a particular area of specialization.

Syllabus

Cultural journalism

-Definition and scope of cultural journalism.

-The cultural sector: how it is, who generates information, big figures, the effects of piracy, the digital irruption.

-Cultural journalism and screening: how to achieve your own criteria.

-Cultural journalism and media: the effects of precarization.

-The genres, applied to culture: criticism, chronicle, information, agenda, obituaries.

-The corporate communication: e-mail, press conference, lumch? How communication agencies work

Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested.

Meeting Point. Meetings will be organised with notable people from the professional and scientific fields or the international field, and students. These sessions will take the form of conferences, work sessions, discussions, or interviews, etc.
