The Final Master’s Degree Project consists of the oral and written resolution, in groups of three, of five paradigmatic or genuine cases involving consultancy and litigation.

When it is deemed that students have received enough training in their external work placements to prove they have achieved the required level of skills and abilities, the defence of their Final Project before the thesis panel will take place at the end of the semester in which they complete 30 credits of external work placements. In addition, this defence will be subject to them having passed the previous modules of the Master’s Degree Course.

The objective of the Final Master’s Degree Project is that students are faced with a series of real, complex and cross-disciplinary situations which they attempt to solve on the spot, in the presence of the teacher, using all the conceptual, theoretical and practical learning acquired during the degree and master’s courses, in addition to having to defend it orally.

• CA05 - Know and be able to apply professional ethical rights and duties in the lawyer’s dealings with clients, third parties, courts, public authorities and other lawyers.
• CA08 - Know how to identify the key requirements for the provision and organisation of legal consultancy.
• CB07 - Know how to apply acquired knowledge and problem-solving abilities in new or little-known surroundings within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.
• CB09 - Know how to communicate their conclusions to specialist and non-specialist audiences alike in a clear and unambiguous way along with the rationale and knowledge that supports them.
• CG01 - Acquire the ability to work individually and as part of a team as well as the communication and leadership skills required to progress in the legal profession.

Students will learn how to:

• Defend their legal position orally and in writing when faced with a given situation. They will also use the same approach to defend other possible alternative solutions.

• Synthesise the training acquired on the subject of consulting or legal advice and litigation when faced with any case put forward as an example in any of the modules of the Master’s Degree course.

• Recognise the practical tools necessary for the professional practice of law.

• Be clear on the everyday activity of a lawyer and be able to provide professional legal services.

• The Final Master’s Degree Project consists of the oral and written resolution, in groups of three, of five paradigmatic or genuine cases involving consultancy and litigation.

• The work should reflect the application and integration of the knowledge acquired in the modules of Organisation of the Profession, Legal Advice, General Litigation, Special Litigation and Professional Practice, as well as the effective use of the resources at their disposal to provide an efficient solution to the problems that arise during its preparation.

• Each project must consider all possible alternative solutions applicable to the case. For its preparation, students must show self-sufficiency, initiative and the ability to apply the knowledge they have acquired, as well as the ability to communicate their conclusions, along with the underlying knowledge and rationale that support them, both orally and in writing, to a specialist audience, in a clear and unambiguous way.

Each project must therefore consider all possible alternative solutions applicable to the case. In producing it, students must demonstrate self-sufficiency, initiative and the capacity to apply the knowledge they have acquired, as well as the ability to communicate their conclusions, along with the underlying knowledge and rationale that support them, orally and in writing, in a clear and unambiguous way to a specialist audience, in this case the thesis panel.

The Final Master’s Degree Project (TFM) also involves hours of face-to-face sessions where students will be guided as to the theoretical and practical aspects necessary for the preparation and defence of their work.

The following aspects will be taken into account when assessing the work:

Written work:

• Conceptual aspects: especially the application of the knowledge and concepts acquired, as well as the coherence and clarity of the presentation.

• Formal aspects: presentation of the work according to the standards established in the style book of the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Law.

Oral Defence:

• Ability to communicate, especially the precise use of legal language, as well as the order and clarity of the presentation will be taken into account.

• Regarding the content, the ability to apply the knowledge acquired. Full information on deadline dates, the dates of face-to-face sessions and the composition of groups is in the attached document "1. General regulations, groups and teaching staff"
