Introduction

The course aims to work on the evolution of the growing impact of sports journalism in all the current media. We will focus on the uniqueness of their specialization through all genres: press, radio, television and the Internet.

None.

Objectives

  • To know the origins of sports journalism and its evolution.
  • To understand the criteria of the media by hearing the hierarchy of information.
  • To identify the diversity of formats and genres of sports journalism, their vocabulary and their specialization.
  • To understand the evolution of design for printed media and its importance in the final product.
  • To analyze the treatment of major events worldwide.

Learning outcomes of the subject

  • They will know the resources and professional dynamics of the different areas of journalistic expertise.
  • They may perform tasks in corporate communication agencies specialized in the areas studied during this module.
  • They will know how to analyze and understand the sectors related to each of the journalistic specializations offered in the module.
  • They will adapt the attitudes and skills learned in journalism to products or projects determined by a particular area of specialization.

Syllabus

 'SPORTS JOURNALISM' 

  1. HISTORY OF SPORTS JOURNALISM IN THE PRESS. (Evolution of formats to date. Differences between press and Internet).
  2. HISTORY OF SPORTS JOURNALISM IN RADIO AND TV. (Evolution of formats to present).
  3. SOURCES OF SPORTS JOURNALISM. (Content analysis of the four major sports papers, sports section in four generalist newspapers, TV news and radio programs).
  4. ORGANIZATION AND HIERARCHY OF SPORTS INFORMATION. (Set the script of a sports daily paper, a section of Sports in general press, info TV and radio).
  5. SPORTS LEXICON AND SPECIFIC SLANG.
  6. GENDER in the press (1): NEWS AND CHRONIC (difference between newspaper and web).
  7. Genres in print media (2): Interview, Report, Profile.
  8. THEORY AND PRACTICE OF SPORTS broadcasts on radio and TV.

Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Meeting Point. Meetings will be organised with notable people from the professional and scientific fields or the international field, and students. These sessions will take the form of conferences, work sessions, discussions, or interviews, etc.

Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

  • REVIEW: 50% of the final grade.
  • FEATURE (to deliver 11 December): 40% of the final grade.
  • PRACTICES DURING THE COURSE: 10% of the final grade.
  • RECOVERY IN THE SECOND HALF (June 2019).

Only it will take to recover the review, reporting and / or visual work if they are suspended.
