Introduction

About this subject:

  • The teacher conducts basic ideas which put into practice through exercises and reinforced with some supporting files that summarize what you need to know.
  • The exercises are repeated constantly and the level of demand will crescendo. Everything is a progressive training.
  • The languages (Catalan, Spanish and English) are constantly alternated. The participant chooses the language. The use of the lesser-known languaje the sake of self-improvement is recommended.
  • When the teacher uses English, expresses the same idea several times with different words, redundancy designed to reinforce understanding.
  • Knowledge of Media Training is imparted on the set of TV.
  • Part of the sessions takes place in the computer room.
  • Students are asked to be always provided of pendrive, headphones, blank paper and pen. Ideally also laptop or tablet.

  • Reduce the fear of speaking in front of the public.
  • Learn to speak before a TV camera.

  • Develop persuasive speeches.
  • Improvise verbal statements.

  • Learn to represent an organization in exercising the role of the spokesperson, especially in emergency situations.

Syllabus

  1. Techniques and exercises to better express orally. Emphasis on breathing techniques. How to improve diction.
  2. The art of summarizing: deconstruction, keywords and prioritization of ideas + development of the internal clock.
  3. Resources for attention and convincing an audience. The non-verbal languaje.
  4. Techniques to speak to a radio microphone and a TV camera.
  5. Techniques for making speeches. Improvisation techniques.
  6. Analysis of models of social and political oratory.
  7. How convincing gatherings and conferences. Making the role of presenter/moderator.
  8. Techniques for generating ideas and improve our messages.
  9. Spokesman techniques: the statement, interview and press conference.
  10. The spokesman in crisis situations.

Focused Praxis. Handing in occasional exercises to learn theory through practice.

Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

  • First 50% of the final mark: continuous assessment through exercises of all kinds in class, including multiple choice exams and individual assessments of exercises. The notes will appear on the Intranet. The average mark comes from that notes. Points are deducted for absences. Arriving late to class is equated with absence, unless it is properly justified.
  • Second 50% of the final grade: speech to the group.
  • Who suspend the speech or not present, must be submitted to comprehensive final exam.

 

PORTFOLIO

  • The student should have stored in a (physical or digital) folder all exercises along sessions and subject it to the revision of the teacher. It will include -if necessary- excused absences and delays.
  • Professor may increase the marks of those students who demonstrate continuous¡s improvement in attitude, attendance, punctuality, contribution to the successful development of classes and have portfolio well crafted. Also, reversed attitudes will be penalized.
