Introduction

This subject is intended to provide students with the tools and knowledge on oral and written communication that university learning requires and encourages an advanced level of language mastery.

No pre-course requirements are needed to enrol in this subject.

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • E21 - To master the different levels and functions of language.
  • E24 - Ability to present the results of research project in accordance with the standards of each subject area.
  • E25 - Ability to communicate orally in one's own language and other languages using the terminology and resources accepted in the cultural framework of each language
  • E26 - Ability to read and write texts in one's own language and other languages, as well as transcribe, summarise and categorise pertinent information.
  • G01 - To analyse and interpret social and cultural environments to identify need, opportunities, weaknesses and strenghts..

4. Acquire the ability to understand, analyse and synthesise.

5. Ability to express one's ideas and arguments in an orderly and coherent way both in oral and written form (written and oral techniques).

6. Develop critical analysis skills.

7. improve one of the mother tongues: Spanish.

8. Develop arguments and synthesis in oral debates and presentations.

9. Read and analyze classical works and essays. It is valued as they enrich their knowledge and vital experience.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

The competences of the subject will be assessed from the oral and written exercises performed by the student in the classroom and exercises on readings (50%), for which preparation will be required (Also a drafted book review).

The final exam will account for 50%.

Only three class absences will be allowed. The fourth and following absence will be penalised.

If students do not pass first exam, they can only get 5 points in the followings tests.

If the student fails in the first sitting, the maximum score that he/she can obtain in the following will be 50 points.
