Introduction

TV Studio or "Plató" is a 1 ECT course that it is taught during the first semester of the first year in Journalism Studies.

It is part of the area of TV studies. Thus, along with other subjects studied during the first year (Audio and Video Editing and Journalistic Language 1), this course helps students to enter the second year module "Communication Television."

"Plato" introduces students to the TV professional world by providing them with technical and theoretical skills to develop the desired message. In addition, students will be involved in a team and will develop a critical attitude to audiovisual products.

Pre-course requirements

It is not required to have previous knowledge of the audiovisual world. However, being interested in the television content a and workflows is an extra to address the course.

Objectives

Students must have been taken 'Plato' before joining this course.

Learning outcomes of the subject

 

Students will move in a professional environment with autonomy.
They will work with ease and professionalism in the recording process with a single camera.
They can ride a video as they have acquired knowledge of video editing software.
They used narrative resources judiciously to make an audiovisual product.

Syllabus


Presentation of the subject and the DMS 

Basic shots and their narrative functions. 

Camera: manual (iris) exposure, shutter speed, color temperature, ISO and manual focus. 

Recording.

External recording. 

Editing.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

The course is divided in two weekly sessions of two hours each. Lectures and practical activities related to the theoretical content are combined in each session.
Overall, the course has 5 sessions in which students will acquire the required skills to pursue the following course, Audio and Video Editing which is also linked to the Audiovisual Journalism area.

Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Practical workshop. A highly practical working activity, where students can acquire skills that are practical or also theoretical (intellectual skills, logical skills, critical skills, intellectual learning skills, study skills, quoting skills, etc).

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

The evaluation will be continued and class attendance is mandatory. 

Students must submit several exercises. These works have a personal and a groupal development. In addition, other criteria such as attitude, teamwork, deadlines achieved or creativity will be evaluated when evaluating exercises and activities delivered by students.
 
Summary assessment:
  • Activity 1: Who's Who in the world of planes (15% of grade) 
  • Activity 2: Basics (20% of grade)
  • Activity 3: Storyboard (15% of grade)
  • Activity 4: Camera and action (35% of grade)
  • Attitude and Attendance: (15% of grade)


To take over this subject, students must delivery all 4 activities. 


The recovery of this subject in second call implies the delivery of all 4 activitats. For the 3rd call and following it is necessary to repeat the subject.
