Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.

Dental prostheses or prosthodontics is that part of dentistry that deals with the modification of pathological and natural teeth restoration of missing teeth and the prevention of future diseases.

This subject will address the study of Fixed Prostheses, which explain the different types of treatments that involve fixed prosthesis and how they should perform the dental preparations for getting good functional and aesthetic results.

Pre-course requirements

Oral and dental anatomy. Knowledge of the pathophysiology of patients partially dentate or dentate. Knowledge of the anatomy and function of dental structures. Knowledge of conducting a medical and dental history.

Objectives

The aim of this subject is to enable students acquire the basic knowledge and skills in relation to different types of restorations involving the fixed prosthesis and mixed prosthesis and the preparations to be carried out to achieve good results.

Specifically the dentist should be competent in establishing a diagnosis, a prognosis and developing a suitable treatment plan, particularly in terms of orofacial pain, temporo-mandibular disorders, bruxism and other parafunctions; dental and periapical pathology; oral and dental trauma; periodontal and peri-implanted tissue pathologies; pathology of the mandibular bone, of soft oral tissue and annex glands; states of partial or total edentation and planning rehabilitation treatment via dento-muco supported prostheses, or dental impants, dental malpositions or malocculusions and other anatomical or functional alterations of the face or the stomatognathic system and their potential orthodontic, orthopaedic or surgical corrections

THEORETICAL TEST:

It will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer will be valued 1 point. To pass the test, a minimum score of 25 points must be obtained.

PRECLINICAL PRACTICES: 25% Each one of the practices will be evaluated according to the acquisition and application of knowledge, skill and attitude (including punctuality). Attendance at practices is compulsory. At the end of the practices, a practical evaluation will be carried out.

At the end of the online seminar, an online evaluation will be carried out.

CLINICAL PRACTICE (the grade will depend on the CUO): 15% Clinical practices: Each of the practices in the dental clinic (CUO) will be evaluated according to the acquisition and application of knowledge, skill and attitude (including punctuality). Attendance at practices is compulsory. After the online seminars there will be an online evaluation

The evaluation will be according to the following percentages:

- Theoretical test ............................................... ...... 60%

- Practices ................................................ ............. 40%

To pass the subject it is necessary to pass the theory, the practicals and the written work, separately. Once passed individually, the referred percentages will be applied.

The possibility of taking an oral exam in case of special difficulties of the student will be considered, after acceptance of the situation by the professor and the academic secretary.
