Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.

Restorative dentistry includes all those treatments that target the oral rehabilitation of the patient both functionally and aesthetically. Therefore, this subject clinical cases in which intervened different areas of dentistry, especially endodontics and dental aesthetics are presented. The goal is to offer students a comprehensive idea of all the steps that must be performed to achieve a correct diagnosis, and subsequent successful treatment.

Pre-course requirements

None

Objectives

Understand all steps to reach an accurate diagnosis and establish the most appropriate treatment in each situation.

Acquire training in oral exposure through case presentation by the students.

Understand the concepts of pulpo-periapical diagnosis.

Knowing the characteristics of an aesthetic smile.

Learn restorative treatment plan and determine its degree of difficulty.

Acquire skills in the oral presentation of a case.

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Students must know how to express and reason their conclusions in front of specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way. Self-learning capacity in the development of new instrumental techniques, in the acquisition of new scientific concepts, and in the search for new scientific information. Ability to argue and defend their own scientific ideas as well as to listen, analyze, evaluate and respond to the ideas of another person. Acquire learning skills that allow them to continue studying in a self-directed and autonomous way. Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas in a research context. Apply the knowledge acquired, and develop their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study. Communicate the conclusions, knowledge and ultimate reasons that sustain them to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way. Be able to apply the appropriate diagnostic techniques and correctly interpret the results derived from them. Ability to integrate the new knowledge acquired through research and study, and deal with complexity. Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas, often in a research context. That students know how to apply the knowledge acquired and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study. Perform a correct analysis and diagnosis taking into account multidisciplinary factors of the masticatory apparatus. Obtain the ability to apply the scientific method, and apply the knowledge acquired in solving problems in a scientific field. Learn to develop research projects both in vitro and in vivo, within the field of mechanics, biology and microbiology applied to endodontics. To have autonomy in the development and application of new technologies in restorative dentistry and in the search for new scientific information, and to acquire the ability to evaluate and carry out research projects. Be able to practice as a clinical professional and / or researcher in the field of aesthetic restorative dentistry, acting as a true specialist or expert in the field; Knowing how to diagnose, treat, prevent and investigate pulpoperiapical disorders and be up-to-date on the diagnostic and therapeutic advances that arise during the course of his professional life. Acquire the ability to perform endodontic treatments and dental restorations on mucous membranes in patients who have destruction of the hard tissues of the tooth and / or pulpoperiapical pathology, in a multidisciplinary manner. Be able to make public presentations on clinical cases justifying themselves based on the scientific literature, using correctly the scientific terminology related to dental pathologies. Acquire the scientific criteria to choose the type of material to perform restorative treatments depending on the case, as well as know how to constantly update their knowledge in dental biomaterials used in the field of endodontics and restorations, knowing their handling, properties, indications, biocompatibilities and toxicity. To be able to search, organize and analyze, with a critical spirit, using biomedical information sources, the scientific literature on topics related to restorative dentistry in order to follow their continuing education process in a self-directed and autonomous way. Recognize and interpret the images and specialized diagnostic techniques that have relevance in the diagnosis of dental pathologies. To have autonomy to carry out the anamnesis and oral explorations to the patients with dental pathologies by completing the clinical history and its clinical course with language and scientific terminology appropriate to a professional of the endodontics. Be able to diagnose and prevent dental pathologies and be up to date on the diagnostic and therapeutic advances that arise during the course of their professional life.
