Spain Position

QS World University Rankings by Subject ranks the best institutions in the world in 54 subjects distributed in five areas: “Arts and Humanities”, “Engineering and Technology”, “Life Sciences and Medicine”, “Natural Sciences” and “Social Sciences and Management”. The total of the best institutions varies according to the subject, in the case of "Dentistry" it classifies the 80 best institutions in the world.

In the QS-WUR by subject ranking, the different areas and disciplines are analysed through the reputation indicators between academics and employers, and the amount and impact of their research. These are individually recalibrated to adapt to each area and discipline, seeing as research and publication vary significantly between different academic disciplines.

The indicators used in this ranking to measure “academic and employer reputation” and “research” are:

  • Reputation:
    • Academic reputation: academic assessment of the different areas of universities.
    • Employer reputation: assessment of employers on the different universities through their hired employees.
  • Research:
    • Citations: research citations per article over a period of five years.
    • H-index: The index is based on the total number of most cited articles of the academic, and the number of citations they have received in other publications.
  • International outlook:
    • IRN ( International Research Network): It reflects the ability of universities to diversity the geography of their international research networking by establishing sustainable research partnership with other higher education institutions.

Since research and publication rates vary significantly across academic areas and disciplines, the QS World University Rankings by Subject apply a different weighting of the above indicators in each subject.

The results of UIC Barcelona in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 classify the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in the following positions in the subject of “Dentistry”:

Subject Business Administration and Management

A total of 80 Spanish universities (48 of which are public, and 32 are private) have participated in this 10th edition of the CYD Ranking.

The CYD Ranking has a multidimensional focus and offers indicators that measure and compare universities’ performance in their different activity areas by analysing a total of 36 institutional indicators classified by performance groups (high, intermediate and low), which are grouped into six dimensions: Teaching and Learning; Research; Knowledge Transfer; International Outlook; Contribution to Regional Development and Employability (the latter in the field ranking).

The CYD Ranking makes it possible to measure and compare universities’ performance on two levels:

Institutional
Offers an overall analysis of the University.

Field of knowledge
Offers an analysis of all bachelor's and master’s degrees, which due to their level of homogeneity constitute a particular thematic area. For this edition, UIC Barcelona has participated in the fields of Business Administration and Management, Law and Journalism and Communication.

Although it doesn’t provide a unique position for each university, the CYD Ranking ranks universities according to the number of indicators that have obtained a high, intermediate or low performance.

Institutional level, UIC Barcelona ranks 14th out of 80 Spanish universities and once again stands out in the dimension of "Contribution to Regional Development".

The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya is also collaborating with the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya) in carrying out an employment survey to obtain reliable data and evidence on the employability of graduates of higher education programmes (bachelor's, master's degrees and doctorates), which will enable us to take decisions that help improve teaching.

AQU Catalunya has conducted the employment survey of the entire Catalan university system every three years since 2001, and in its twenty years of existence it has already accumulated more than 100,000 records, with a response rate of approximately 50%. These data confirm the validity of the survey, the reliability of the data and consolidate the survey as one of the most representative, comprehensive and important surveys in Europe. The population surveyed are graduates who completed their studies at least three years ago, which provides an accurate picture of their progression and integration into the labour market, providing information on the timescale, quality and pathway they have followed, as well as their degree of satisfaction with the education they have received.

UIC Barcelona has participated in this study since 2014, given that the results and conclusions drawn from the survey are considered representative. At the same time, the fact of being able to obtain comparative data with the rest of the universities in Catalonia is highly valued.

The most up-to-date data are those corresponding to the 8th edition of the survey. The fieldwork was carried out between November and December 2022 in the electronic phase and between January and May 2023 in the telephone phase.

Almost 41.000 people were surveyed in this latest study: almost 23.000 bachelor's degree and higher artistic education graduates, more than 15,000 master's degree graduates and almost 2,500 doctoral degree graduates, figures that represent half of the reference population (bachelor's degree graduates between 2018 and 2019, except for medicine graduates from the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 graduating cohort, and higher artistic education, master's degree and doctoral degree graduates from the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years). In the case of Degrees, only the 2017-2018 promotion was considered if the population of this promotion was equal to or greater than 65 graduates.
