La Dra. Sílvia Perpiñán és investigadora col·laboradora de l’Institute for Multilingualism de UIC Barcelona des del 2018, on treballa, des d’una perspectiva lingüística, l’adquisició de segones i terceres llengües, el manteniment de les llengües d’herència, el bilingüisme català-castellà, i altres contextos de multilingüisme. Va obtenir el màster(2004) i el doctorat (2010) a la Universitat d’Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, en lingüística i adquisició de segones llengües. Des d’aleshores ha treballat a la Universitat de Western Ontario, al Canadà, on el 2016 va obtenir plaça com a professora titular. És membre del grup de recerca consolidat ALLENCAM (Adquisició de Llengües des de la Catalunya Multilingüe) de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra. La seva recerca se centra en el desenvolupament i la natura de les llengües no natives, la teoria sintàctica i morfològica aplicada a l’adquisició de segones llengües i el bilingüisme, el manteniment de les llengües d’herència i el canvi lingüístic per contacte de llengües.
