VIII Theoretical-Practical Course On Corticotomies for Orthodontists, Periodontists and Surgeons
Corticotomies are surgical procedures that facilitate orthodontic dental movement, increase the limits of dental movement, improve alveolar bone volume and frequently reduce treatment time. It is an extraordinarily relevant therapeutic tool that opens up many treatment possibilities and has a clear interdisciplinary focus.
The aim is to demonstrate how corticotomies, where indicated, can improve the predictability of orthodontic treatment, reduce biological dental and periodontal costs and lessen patient discomfort.
The theoretical part of the course takes a look at the procedure’s biological basis, sets out the indications and presents the rationale, treatment and development of different clinical cases, and explains the surgical procedure, instruments and design of corticotomies.
In the practical part of the course, the students, in small groups, will perform corticotomies on animal heads and consider the indications and design of corticotomies in clinical cases.
Competences to be acquired by students
This course provides the theoretical background necessary to start using or perfect the use of corticotomies in the clinic.
This course is aimed at dentists, specialists in orthodontics, periodontics or maxillofacial surgeons.
