To understand Society and Culture in the 21st century, it is necessary to have knowledge of the following disciplines and concepts: Anthropology, Culture, Sociology, Art History and Philosophy History.

The general objective of the subject is to offer a theoretical reflection on the culture in the 21st century and its social impact, to achieve a better understanding of some of the multiple relationships between culture and society and to analyze the mechanisms of interaction in order to gain a better understanding of the role of cultural management.

As future cultural managers, we are going to look for answers in Museums and Cultural Institutions of Barcelona, as well as in relevant authors of the different theoretical perspectives. This course is designed to enable cultural manager students the time to pursue intensive personal research programs in a group environment.

Students will be expected to attend local exhibitions, museums, visiting artist lectures, etc. As part of the course work, familiarity with the gallery scene in Barcelona is essential.

Dr. Marta Crispí Cantón 

Academic coordination
Naghieli Amarista
Degree in the History of Art specialising in Plastic Arts from the Central University of Venezuela (2006). Her thesis investigated the transformation of communication between the spectator and the work of art through digital interactivity and part of this research was published in the book “Estéticas del Media Art” (Aesthetics of Art Media) published by the EUMEDNET group of the University of Malaga. Master’s Degree in Cultural Management from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (2014). She was a research assistant in the Communications Research Institute of the Central University of Venezuela (ININCO-UCV). She has worked as a cataloguing and archiving assistant at the Deposit Guarantee Fund and Bank Protection of Venezuela and has also been a manager and cultural communicator at SWAB Barcelona, the International Trade Fair for Contemporary Art.

Lucía Pérez

Lucía Pérez holds a PhD in Communication (Culture and Museum) from the University of Malaga, where she earned the highest mark: summa cum laude (2016). She is a researcher in the Chair for Management by Missions and Corporate Governance at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and in the PAIDI Group: New Forms of Advertising and the New Economy in the Department of CAV and Advertising at the University of Malaga. She completed the Strategic Management and Social Leadership Programme at the IESE Business School in Madrid and holds a Master's Degree in Cultural Management (Social Development of Artistic Culture) from the University of Malaga (2014-2015). She is a researcher and collaborator at the UNIR and director of the Final Master's Degree Project. Since 2016, she has worked as a cultural manager for the Marbella City Council, Malaga, previously serving as personal assistant to the assistant director-general for Culture and Education, from 2004 to 2011, and as cultural manager for the Mayor's office from 1994 to 2004, where she was in charge of coordination, institutional relations and administration.
