Presentation

In today’s society, the biomedical sector is undergoing significant growth. In recent years our country has started to be seen as a benchmark in the South of Europe due to the promotion of biomedical research through the creation of science and technology parks. ; These parks, along with the large number of biomedical companies that are mainly oriented towards human health, offer an unbeatable scenario for professionals who want to work in basic research or who would like to transfer their knowledge to business practices.

According to a report carried out in 2015 by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency, the biomedical sector is experiencing significant growth and brings together jobs that are in high demand and this, according to Barcelona City Council is particularly the case in the area of pharmaceutical marketing, clinical development and genetic analysis. Current data obtained from the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency indicates that the employability rate in 2017 was approximately 86%.

Degree access routes

Can I take the entrance exams if I took the social sciences, humanities or art track in upper secondary school?
Yes. Please bear in mind that the entrance exams include specific biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics tests at a first-year upper secondary level.

Can I take the entrance exams if I took a Higher Level Vocational Training Course (CFGS) not related to Health?
Yes. Please bear in mind that the entrance exams include specific biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics tests at a first-year upper secondary level.

Can I validate subjects if I began a CFGS in the field of Health?
Yes. To do so, you must submit the CFGS curriculum to the Government of Catalonia and wait for approval.

If I already have a university degree, do I still need to take the entrance exams?
Yes, the entrance exams are a requirement for admission into the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences.

Can I validate subjects if I began a university degree in the field of Health?
If you began but did not finish your university studies or have requested an academic record transfer, you may request that your previous academic merits be recognised once accepted. To do so, you must inform the Admissions Service of your desire to validate subjects and provide a series of documents within the established timeframe.

Entrance exams and process

What is the cut-off mark for admission into the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences?
Admission will depend on the mark you earn on the entrance exams given at our university and on passing the Spanish university entrance exams (PAU).

What do the entrance exams involve?
They involve:

  • A psychometric test
  • An English level test
  • Specific Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics tests
  • A general knowledge test
  • A personal interview

I took the scientific/bio-health track in upper secondary school, but did not take Physics in year one. Do I need to take the physics test as part of the entrance exams?
Yes, you must take all four specific tests.

Are there any practice exams I can use?
No, we do not provide practice exams from previous years. In the case of the specific tests, we suggest you look at your textbooks from year one of upper secondary school. And in the case of the psychometric test, there are examples online that will give you an idea of what the test involves.

Are the exams multiple choice?
Yes. No deductions will be made for incorrect answers, and you may not use a calculator.

What level of English is required for the exam?
B2 or higher.

How are the marks on my academic record and the entrance exams weighted?
The marks on your academic record account for 20%; the entrance exams, 60%; and the personal interview, 20%.

At what time will the exams take place?
9 a.m. to 2 p.m., approximately.

Can I choose when I take the entrance exams?
You may request a specific date, although you must receive confirmation from the Information and Admissions Service, who, after examining your documents, will confirm the final date of the exam via e-mail. The longer you wait, the fewer the number of available places.
We therefore recommend that you sit the exams as early as possible.

When will I find out the results of the entrance exams?
The results will be sent to you by e-mail approximately 15 working days after you take the exams.

If I am “not accepted”, can I take the entrance exams again in the same academic year?
No, you may only sit the exams once per academic year.

If I have been accepted, what is the next step?
You will be sent an acceptance letter detailing the steps you need to take to reserve a place in the programme (by paying 20% of the first-year tuition fee). The remaining 80% may be paid in one lump sum during the enrolment period, between July and September.

If I reserve a place and then decide not to study at UIC Barcelona, will the reservation fee be reimbursed?
The reservation fee will only be reimbursed if you fail to pass your upper secondary studies or the Spanish university entrance exams (PAU). This clause is laid out in the General Terms and Conditions.
