The subject and content of this course has never been taught before in Spain. We believe it to be of great interest at both an academic and professional level as it will cover little known yet important aspects in the field of aesthetic implantology.  

Course Objectives 

The subject and content of this course has never been taught before in Spain. We believe it to be of great interest at both an academic and professional level as it will cover little known yet important aspects in the field of aesthetic implantology.  

Competences the student will acquire

  • Students will be able to make various types of provisional restorations step by step. 
  • They will learn the different indications for each type of provisional restoration and the morphology they need to have according to the case to be treated.

Prospective students

The course is aimed at general dental practitioners and stomatologists with experience in prosthetic implantology, as it a course with advanced teaching content.

First day  

Introduction

  • Provisional restorations over screw implants: 
    • Basic concepts; critical and sub-critical profile
    • Types of provisional restorations: natural tooth, laboratory generated using the double-mix technique or    CAD/CAM
    • Where and how to establish the critical contour
    • Subcritical contour, concave or convex? 

Coffee break 

  • Provisional restorations over screw implants: 
    • Optimisation of the papilla by modifying the provisional restoration.
    • Transfer of the emergence profile to the working model, personalising the coping, direct technique, impression using the provisional restoration.
    • Communication with the lab technician.
    • Shaping the profile on the working model, rigid or semi-rigid gingival mask, CAD/CAM 
  • Discussion and critical analysis of the available scientific literature on the subject 

Lunch

  • Ovoid pontics: 
    • Types: Using the patient's own tooth and laboratory-manufactured ones (Maryland/Rochette)
    • Concept of  prosthetic sealing post-regeneration.
    • When to start to apply pressure?
    • Atraumatic alternative to a conventional second surgical intervention: “soft tissue remodelling technique” 

Coffee break

  • Ovoid pontics: 
    • Shaping the emergence profile; the critical and subcritical profile.
    • Protocol for pontic site augmentation in a predictable way.
    • Optimisation of papillae through modifying the provisional restoration.
    • Personalisation of the impression coping before taking the impression: pontic duplication technique
    • Communication with the lab technician. 

Discussion 

Second day

Hands on

  • Provisional restorations over screw implants:
    • Shaping the emergence profile; critical and subcritical profile.
    • Making silicone keys based on a wax impression.
    • Adjustment of the provisional post.
    • First application of resin, cut back and colouring. 

Coffee break 

  • Provisional restorations over screw implants:
    • Second application of resin, colouring and glazing.
    • Finishing, polishing and shining.
    • Copy of the emergence profile.
    • Customising the impression coping 
  • Discussion 

Lunch

  • Ovoid pontics: 
    • Shaping the emergence profile; critical and subcritical profile.
    • Making silicone keys based on a wax impression.
    • Application of resin, colouring and glazing.
    • Protocol for increasing composite levels for gingival shaping and secondary atraumatic surgery
