Course presentation

In the context of Adhesive Dentistry, dental isolation techniques are a basic tool in the field of operative dentistry. New systems and new materials are always appearing, and constant updates are required to ensure high-quality dentistry.

Course objectives

The aim of this course is to provide students dental isolation training on both a theoretical and practical level. During the course, we will teach the students to identify the instruments and material that may be used in dental isolation, which is indicated to:

  • Isolate the teeth from saliva;
  • block the flow of gingival crevice fluid;
  • isolate the teeth from the moisture in expired air;
  • improve visibility and access;
  • protect soft tissue;
  • facilitate the placement of medicinal products;
  • isolate the teeth from oral microflora, ensuring aseptic work conditions;
  • separate or contain the soft tissue around the teeth;
  • maintain a dry field.

Competences to be acquired by students

Students will be able to:

  • Identify the basic dental isolation tools: rubber dam, clamps, Young’s arch, puncher, forceps and sheets;
  • correctly use accessories to help ensure complete isolation;
