Course presentation
In the context of Adhesive Dentistry, dental isolation techniques are a basic tool in the field of operative dentistry. New systems and new materials are always appearing, and constant updates are required to ensure high-quality dentistry.
Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide students dental isolation training on both a theoretical and practical level. During the course, we will teach the students to identify the instruments and material that may be used in dental isolation, which is indicated to:
- Isolate the teeth from saliva;
- block the flow of gingival crevice fluid;
- isolate the teeth from the moisture in expired air;
- improve visibility and access;
- protect soft tissue;
- facilitate the placement of medicinal products;
- isolate the teeth from oral microflora, ensuring aseptic work conditions;
- separate or contain the soft tissue around the teeth;
- maintain a dry field.
Competences to be acquired by students
Students will be able to:
- Identify the basic dental isolation tools: rubber dam, clamps, Young’s arch, puncher, forceps and sheets;
- correctly use accessories to help ensure complete isolation;
- isolate simple and complex cases;
- apply the various isolation techniques;
- become familiar with the systems used to bond anterior teeth;
- handle complex Class II cases.
