What is Startup Pioneer Programme?

Startup Pioneer Programme is a great opportunity to launch your ideas for a business or social impact project.

You’ll work as part of a team through an online platform on an entrepreneurial project and you will have all the training and support resources you need at your disposal to go through the entrepreneurial process step by step.

Entrepeneurship Day

Who can participate?

This competition is aimed at bachelor's and master's degree students from the faculties of Economic and Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Dentistry, Biomedicine, Bioengineering and Psychology at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.

Teams will be judged on their multidisciplinary nature, i.e. composed of students from different faculties and/or students from different years.

What is the platform like?

This is a virtual space where you will publish your business or social project idea. You will form part of a team of entrepreneurs and have all the resources and advice you need to make your project a reality.

Startup Pioneer Programme step by step

Phase 1. Form your group and register your idea

This first step is easy, but don’t leave it until the last minute!

  1. Sign up to the platform.
  2. Register your project by filling out a short form, and list the other members of your team (minimum 5 maximum 8). Tell us if your project is for profit or not-for-profit.
  3. You can also register an idea individually (and then wait for other members to join you).
  4. Or join another team if you don’t have an idea or team yet.

Phase 2. Work on your project (until 10 March)

Make a business model canvas (don’t worry, we’ll show you how to do it through tutorials and mentoring sessions) and a five-minute video explaining your project. Use your creativity to convince us why your project deserves to be in the final.

Completing Phase 2 comes with a prize, as we will give you 10,000 UICoins to invest in your favourite projects (apart from your own) as a business angel. You can invest in as many as you like. This will create a ranking that will help the jury, made up of teaching staff and entrepreneurs, make a decision on the six finalists.

Phase 3 – Vote for the best project from your classmates

Become a Business Angel with the 10,000 UICoins we will give you! Invest in as many of your favourite projects as you like, just not in your own one. We will then rank them to help our expert jury of lecturers and entrepreneurs choose the finalists.

Phase 4 – Present your project in the Grand Final (29 March)

If your project is a finalist, you will be asked to prepare a pitch deck that you will present to an audience in the Aula Magna on Entrepreneurship Day. Two winning projects will be named (a for-profit project and a social project) and two runner-up prizes will be awarded.

The prizes

  • Second prize in the best business idea category: certificate
  • Second prize in the best social impact idea category: certificate
  • 0.5 points extra (1) added to your final subject mark

1 Active participation in the entire project and Startup Pioneer Programme events. Non-cumulative award. Only applicable to the specified subjects and subscribed faculties. Consult conditions with your faculty.
