Recognition of ECTS credits for language courses at the IfM. New!

UIC Barcelona now awards ECTS credits for the language courses taught by the Institute for Multilingualism (IfM). Below you will find all the information you need to earn credit recognition for the language courses you take at the IfM.

How many credits will be recognised for each language course taught by the IfM?

Click on this document to see the number of credits that will be awarded for each of the language courses taught by the IfM during the 2018-2019 academic year.

How can I earn ECTS credits for the  language courses at the IfM?

ECTS credits may be earned by any UIC Barcelona student who provides proof of having successfully completed any of the extracurricular Catalan, Spanish, English or other language courses organised by the IfM’s Catalan Office and Third Languages Office (in accordance with each course’s specific pass/fail criteria). After finishing and passing the course, you may request a credit recognition certificate at the Institute for Multilingualism office on either the Barcelona or Sant Cugat campuses.

Once I have the certificate, what do I have to do to earn recognition for the credits from the language courses at the IfM?

Once you have the credit recognition certificate, you must submit it at the secretary’s office in your Faculty. The academic secretary will be responsible for updating your record.

When do I need to have done the language course in order to earn credit recognition?

To earn credit recognition, you must have taken the language course or courses during your time as a student at UIC Barcelona. The credits corresponding to the IfM language courses you have passed may be recognised provided you have enough optional credits remaining.

What is the maximum number of credits I can earn for the language courses at the IfM?

You may earn up to 6 ECTS credits for IfM language courses.

When can I get ECTS recognition for Catalan language courses?

If you are a student from outside Spain or you attended secondary school in an Autonomous Community in Spain in which Catalan is not an official language, you may earn ECTS credits for all Catalan courses, regardless of level. If you attended secondary school in an Autonomous Community in Spain in which Catalan is an official language, you may only earn ECTS credits for C2 level courses under the CEFR.
