The Santander IsFamily Chair (Intergenerational Solidarity in the Family) is an initiative set up by the Institute  for Advanced Family Studies at UIC Barcelona in cooperation with Banco Santander. This financial entity stands out due to its high level of commitment to the university sector via Universia.

Directed by Dr Montserrat Gas and coordinated by Dr Rita Cavallotti, the aim of the Chair is to propose the family as a model of intergenerational solidarity that is greatly efficient and flexible, capable of continuously adapting to change and providing support for individuals.

The studies offered by the Chair — from a multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary perspective —  consider the family to be a source through which to transfer resources between generations, and it focuses on three fundamental aspects the Chair addresses: the economy, health and caring for people, and education. Its research is also aimed at proposing social policies that help families to fully realise these intergenerational processes.

The Santander IsFamily Chair therefore aims to create a body of knowledge and actions that aim to take full advantage of the intergenerational potential in the family, seen as an agent of social change. It therefore contributes to the development and implementation of a society in which there is space for all generations and in which everyone is able to take an active role, based on equal rights and opportunities, at all stages of their lives.
