The fourth edition of the UNIRUN gets under way
On 4 March, the cities of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs will host the fourth edition of the UNIRUN, the University Race. The event is promoted by the 12 Catalan universities and the ECU (Catalan University Sport), with support from the Secretariat-General of Sport and the city councils of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs, and has been organised by Gaudium Sports.
The presentation of the latest edition of the UNIRUN took place on 12 February at the Old Estrella Damm Factory. This year, the race patron is race walker Valentín Massana, world champion, Olympic bronze medallist and medallist at the European Athletics Championships. He currently works as a scientist at the Sincrotrón Institute and for the Catalan Athletics Federation, where he is in charge of race walking. He was thrilled about representing this point of convergence between the world of sport and universities.
The event was also attended by representatives from all 12 participating universities: University of Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Pompeu Fabra University, University of Lleida, University of Girona, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Ramon Llull University, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, University of Vic, Abat Oliba CEU University and UIC Barcelona.
This year, the UNIRUN has reached an agreement with adidas whereby the sports brand will sponsor the race and provide participants running shirts. The runners may sport the colours and logo of their university and adidas’ three stripes.
