Xavier Gil, rector at UIC Barcelona, was recently named visiting professor with honours by the University of Minnesota (United States). The nomination was proposed by the Minnesota Dental Research Center for Biometerials and Biomechanics, part of the university’s School of Dentistry.

The title was bequeathed during the Rector’s stay at the American university, in the last week of May. During his time there, Dr Gil had the chance to deliver a lecture entitled “Failure in service of dental and orthopaedic implants: The Biomaterials perspective”.

He also had the opportunity to meet with several high-ranking university officials to discuss the possibility of entering into a partnership with UIC Barcelona and attended a Senate session to talk about the university’s strategy policy.

Prior to this, he was invited to the College of Dentistry at the University of Oklahoma, where he delivered a presentation and set up a research project between the two universities. The University of Oklahoma is one of the leading institutions in the analysis of the biological effects of titanium in the dental implant insertion process.
