GRC - Anthropology of Corporality (SARX)

The main objective of the SARX group is to approach the multiple dimensions of human corporality from an integrative perspective of humanistic, scientific and artistic knowledge, to offer a new paradigm of understanding the human body that overcomes the mutually exclusive discourses of natural sciences and human sciences and facilitates their global and cross-disciplinary understanding.

This interdisciplinary team, based on a philosophical anthropology foundation and a phenomenological methodology, revolves around three complementary principles:

  • The anatomical description of the physical body, revealing its basic structures and functions.
  • The experience or life-situation of corporeality, especially through a phenomenology of health and disease.
  • The expressive and symbolic body, examined from the theory and practice of the arts of movement, as a personal and cultural dynamism of interaction and significance.
