Basic Theoretical-Practical Course for Dental Hygienists
Dental hygienists form part of the team responsible for the oral health of patients along with stomatologists and dentists.
Being a hygienist requires an advanced level of vocational training to be capable of performing the functions of a technical assistant.
One of the main abilities of a hygienist is to be able to administer good mechanical treatments involving scaling and root planing. Most courses offer the chance to learn these techniques using phantom heads. Taking the course in the Faculty of Dentistry at the Universidad Internacional de Catalunya provides the opportunity to make use of the facilities of the University Dental Clinic and engage in practical training with patients. Thus, the course is characterised by encouraging students' practical skills by taking advantage of the benefits offered by the University.
Course Objectives
- To learn all of the concepts relating to causes, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plans in Phase 1 periodontics.
- To learn how to perform scaling and root planing with the different curettes and instruments used.
Competences the student will adquire
The hygienists will acquire a full picture of how to manage a periodontal patient and will learn practical skills for everyday clinical work. They will learn about non-surgical treatments, their clinical protocols and the instruments to use.
Aimed at
This course is aimed at dental hygienists with an interest in periodontics. The aim is to expand their theoretical and practical training in the periodontal hygiene phase. All of the theoretical concepts will be reviewed and put into practice on phantom heads and patients.
