Introduction
Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is the area of dentistry that deals with the supervision, guidance and correction of growth and maturation of the craniofacial structures.
Major responsibilities of orthodontic practice include the diagnosis, prevention, interception and treatment of occlusion anomalies and associated changes in bone and soft tissue.
The orthodontist should monitor the guidance of the dentition and the relationship between their supporting structures to achieve and maintain harmonious relations between the face and cranial structures that allow the patient physiology and dento-facial aesthetics optimal.
The course Orthodontic Topics General introduces the student to the proper orthodontic treatment and includes diagnostic aspects, development of the treatment plan and treatment effects and cephalometric analysis using overlays.

Objectives
The educational objectives for this subject orthodontic General Topics include a set of educational activities that encompass all factors involved in a maoloclusión and prepare students to diagnose and plan treatment of the case.
Within the different aspects of the research methodology, this course the search criteria and review of orthodontic literature will be introduced.
The objectives of the labs are the practical application of theoretical knowledge and the need for the study of the lateral skull teleradiography different cephalometric analyzes and reasoning.

Knowing whether the patient needs orthodontic treatment
Being capar to diagnose malocclusion
Be competent to perform a comprehensive treatment plan

Being able to manage potential iatrogenic effects of orthodontic treatment
Learning outcomes of the subject
The orthodontist at the end of their university education must know cell development and maturation level of man. You should also be able to detect possible alterations affecting the oro-facial region to appropriately diagnose and prevent malocclusion problems that affect their patients.
The orthodontist should be formed with the necessary knowledge and abilities to address these problems. Sometimes when the problem is more complex, must always guide them towards a multidisciplinary team of professionals. It is essential that the student is formed with the philosophy of treating their patients in collaboration with other specialists.

5. Effects of long-term treatment.
6. Iatrogenic effects of orthodontic treatment.
7. Epidemiology.
8. Orthodontic literature.
Laboratory practice

Teaching and learning activities
In person
Case method: Study and discussion of clinical cases
Lectures: Teach basic skills. Includes bibliographical references necessary for the study and expansion of the subject.
Seminars: They are an overview of the theoretical syllabus, with a much more practical side, allowing a more flexible student-teacher interaction.
Tutorials: Monitoring and individualized help of student progress.
Student work: Job search and research performed by the student under the supervision of teachers and autonomously.
Labs: Practical application of theoretical knowledge. Help acquire the ability and skill necessary for clinical application.
Evaluation systems and criteria
In person
The course is 100% attendance in both theoretical and practical sessions.
The student must spend additional hours for study and preparation of the cinical cases
The theoretical and practical program are continuously evaluated with written and oral exams.
The evaluation will take into consideration the following points:

- The presentation of the work requested
- The student clinical practice

- Attitude and Behavior
