Introduction

It is important to get a deal of trust and collaboration with faculty, positive attitude and ability to work in teams, promote the importance of pediatric dentistry care, proper attitude to child patients to try and acquire professional ethics for the practice of this specialty .

On the other hand, we obtain the knowledge necessary to diagnose and propose a plan of treatment and preventive dentistry plan; Learn the techniques of conservative and surgical dental therapy in pediatric patients; Learn the techniques of handling child's behavior in the consultation; Know the principles governing the administration of drugs in pediatric dentistry, and indications and method of use; Knowing how to react to emergencies that may occur in pediatric patients, and how to act before the rest of situations that may occur in pediatric patients.

Objectives

It is widely accepted that the oral health of infants, children and adolescents affects the overall health of the child population and in the future, in the adult population. Therefore, it is important that there are dentists prepared to prevent and solve the most common oral problems of the pediatric population.

The objective of this course is that students obtain advanced knowledge required for proper diagnosis and counseling of child terapética patient.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

- Learn to diagnose oral pathology in the child patient.

- To choose the space maintainer or proper prosthesis in the event of loss of deciduous teeth.

- To diagnose and treat malocclusions in child patient.

- Get the knowledge of oral habits in the child patient and speech therapy.

- Get knowledge of the psychological development of children and how affects dental treatment.

- Know the pathology and periodontal treatment that the child patient may have.

- Get the knowledge of neuro-occlusal treatment.

Learning outcomes of the subject

- Students will be able to diagnose oral pathology in the child patient.

- Students will be able to select the Space maintainers or appropriate prosthesis in the case of loss of deciduous teeth.

- The student will know diagnose and treat dental malocclusions early.

- The student will know diagnose oral habits and guide patients in speech therapy.

- The student will know diagnose and treat periodontal disease.

- The student will obtain the knowledge necessary to include neuro-occlusal rehabilitation in the treatment of pediatric dental patient.

  • Surgical treatment in pediatric dentistry (supernumerary tooth extractions and frenectomy).
  • Oral medicine in pediatric dentistry.
  • Space maintenance (fixed and removable appliances).
  • Early diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions.
  • Control of space and habits in the child patient.
  • Prevention in dentistry.
  • Psychological development of children.
  • Speech myofunctional training.
  • Multidisciplinary treatment of child patient.
  • Periodontal problems in children and adolescents.
  • Medical emergencies in dentistry.
  • Neuro-occlusal rehabilitation in pediatric dentistry.
