Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics is the dentistry specialism which involves the diagnosis, supervision and prevention of problems and treatment of badly positioned teeth and maxillary deformities, both in children and teenagers and in adults.

The aim of this discipline therefore starts with controlling and detecting problems and treating the eruption and development of the maxillaries in young children in both temporary and mixed dentition. For patients who already have their permanent teeth, the aim of orthodontics is to achieve the best possible occlusion between teeth in terms of correct function and physiological adaptation, adhering to principles of good dental and facial aesthetics and maximum stability.

Orthodontic treatment must always be given from an interdisciplinary perspective, i.e. have the cooperation of the other dental specialisms.

For the last 20 years, the Orthodontics department has taught a postgraduate course, Master's in Orthodontics, with the European accreditation of the European Orthodontic Society. The teaching staff for the department and the Master’s programmes are renowned orthodontists trained in Spain, other European centres and in the US.
