Seven medical professors receive the Professional Excellent Award from the Official Association of Physicians of Barcelona
Among the winners are four professors of the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and three of the University Master's Degree in Healthcare Management. One of the winners is Professor Esther Calbo, a lecturer at UIC Barcelona since 2009 and head of the Infectious Diseases Unit of the University Hospital Mutua Terrassa (HUMT)

Dr Jordi Rello, researcher and professor of the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences on Clarivate's list of highly cited researchers in the world. Clarivate Analytics, which classifies according to the publication index in the Web of Science, is one of the most prestigious rankings in the international academic and scientific community.

Fatty acids such as omega-3 slow cognitive decline related to aging and neurodegeneration
This is one of the main conclusions of the review article led by Núria Casals and Ruth Fadó, researchers in the Department of Basic Sciences at UIC Barcelona. The paper also shows that the consumption of certain obesogenic food components contributes to both metabolic and cognitive decline in health.

The Bishop of Terrassa blesses the UIC Clinic chapel
Today, 30 November, Monsignor Salvador Cristau Coll, the Bishop of Terrassa blessed the chapel at the Clinic CUIDES UIC Barcelona, Spain’s first university clinic in palliative care, which was presented last February. Accompanied by the rector, Alfonso Méndiz; the president of the university board, Miguel Ángel Cazcarra; the manager of the UIC Barcelona clinics, Jose M. Garcia-Navas; the managing director of the Clinic, M. José Casas, and members of the Governing Board, the bishop blessed the space intended for all people who need a place to gather in privacy.

Dr Josep Argemí donates a 1920 Reichert microscope to UIC Barcelona
The donation of the valuable device, the same model used by Scientist Ramon y Cajal, was made during the posthumous tribute ceremony to Dr Jordi Cervós, first rector of UIC Barcelona, and as part of the University’s 25th anniversary celebration events.

Dr Leopold Ortega-Monasterio y Gastón, new member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors
On 3 November, Dr Ortega-Monasterio y Gastón, lecturer for the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Law, entered the Royal European Academy of Doctors as a corresponding academician, in a ceremony held in the conference hall of the Edifici Foment del Treball.   The new academy member read a speech entitled “Psychiatry in the Face of Cultural History.” Response on behalf of the Academy was given by Dr Maria Àngels Calvo, PhD in Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy.   Leopold Ortega Monasterio, current president of the Spanish Society for Forensic Psychiatry, holds a medical degree from the Universitat de Barcelona. Specialising in psychiatry and neurology, he defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and expanded his clinical training at the University of Alberta Hospital (Canada). He is part of the UIC Barcelona teaching team and is currently the honorary director of the Official Master’s Degree in Legal, Forensic and Criminological Psychopathology at the UIC.

500 runners and 150 volunteers fill the trails of Collserola in the Antena Solidària Race
The 6th edition of the Antena Solidària Trail Pedralbes solidarity race took place on Sunday morning, 13 November, starting from the Pedralbes Monastery Square, and going through the trails of Collserola. More than 500 athletes and 150 volunteers ran and worked to make a direct impact on the education of children in Ghana and Barcelona.
