Literary Competition

The literature competition is a short story and poetry contest which has been held at UIC Barcelona every year since 1998.

Author

All members of the UIC Barcelona community can enter the competition individually (one piece of work per person in each category).

Topic

Free subject. One story can be submitted per person and per category, in other words, a maximum of two stories.

Catalan or Spanish

From 28 February to 20 March 2024

Inscription

Complete this form to sign up and attach your short story. Remember to include an extract from your piece of writing: the part you like the most, the part that best represents your work... Whatever you want.

Document requirements: Arial size 10, justified, with the title in bold at the top of the document. Entries that do not comply with these requirements will be disqualified. 

Jury

The jury will be made up of experts on literature who will assess the entries submitted and award the prize, according to their criteria, for the best pieces. However, the jury reserves the right to declare the prize null and void if the quality of the entries is not high enough. The jury's decision cannot be appealed and there cannot be more than one award per participant.

Prize

The winners in both the short story and poetry categories will receive a prize worth €100 to be spent at the Fnac.

The winners will be announced during Cultural Month. Participation in the competition will imply acceptance of these terms and conditions.

Copyright

The participants authorise the reproduction of their works without limits as to systems, media or countries and free of charge. Participants will be responsible for any claims arising from the infringement of copyrights.

  1. Participation in the competition will constitute the acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  2. UIC Barcelona reserves the right to accept and publish the submitted texts.
  3. Decisions regarding incidents not covered under these terms and conditions will be made by UIC Barcelona, which will settle the matter to the best of its judgement, and are not subject to appeal.

A total of 31 stories have been presented; 19 in prose and 12 poems.

The jury has been formed by:

  • Ricardo M. Jiménez-Yáñez: Doctor in Linguistics and collaborating professor at the Faculty of Humanities at UIC Barcelona
  • Andrea Rodríguez: Professor Contract Doctor at the Faculty of Humanities at UIC Barcelona
  • Santiago Justel: Doctor in Journalism and adjunct professor at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at UIC Barcelona
