UIC Student Investment Club

Mission

The UIC Student Investment Club aims to train its members to understand the stock market through seminars, lectures and a range of other activities in a practical and enjoyable environment.

Members will gain an in-depth knowledge and grounding in investments and finances, which will allow them to understand the in-and-outs of the industry and its defining features.

The group’s mentor is Josep Faja, associate professor at UIC Barcelona, investment manager and Executive MBA at IESE Business School.

Objectives

The Club aims to help its members achieve the following objectives:

  • To learn how to invest using safe and logical techniques
  • To understand the world of investment banking
  • To learn how to analyse a company
  • To understand the basic principles of investing
  • To understand and learn about the roles involved in investment
  • To develop team-working skills

Activities

We will learn how to invest using real and practical techniques.  Learning will twofold: Not only will we learn how to invest and value a company in seminars, we will also have a go at investing as part of an internal competition.

In addition, once every one or two months, a professional from the investment industry will join us to explain their experience, mistakes and success stories, to give us advice and recommend books, etc.

Aside from what we can learn from these insights, they are also a great opportunity to network and meet people from the industry and stay in contact.

It is also important that these professionals recommend other investors, which will help us to expand our network more efficiently.

Although the majority of our guest speakers will be from the world of investment banking, we can also invite speakers from other fields, depending on the interests of Club members.

It is also an opportunity for the speakers to attract young talent who are motivated and excited to take their first steps in the industry.
